There are two other areas where prisoners are alone in their cells.
One is called the "hole" or solitary where some are sent as a
punishment. The other is segregation where the prisoners deemed too
dangerous to be in the general prison population are held.
I'm not sure if it's still that way or not (things change behind the
walls with every new administration) but that's the way it was a long
time ago (15 years to be truthful). Hopefully this will answer your
question.
