Guys,

Remember part of the reason that Giles gets so freaked over his "Black
Magick Days" is because that he and Ethan are the only surviving members of
their group. The demon they summoned killed the others AND almost killed
Buffy.

Also the name Ripper refers to Giles darker side. Not just with Magick. In
his late teen years Giles was what you might call a bit of a rebel. A
genuine rock and roll playing, motorcycle riding, ass kicking Punk. Imagine
a non-blond, non-vamp version of Spike.
