I have never backed down from anything in my life. I am Danielle Harris,
adopted daughter of Anya, an ex-vengeance demon, I speak seven human
languages and three demon dialects and I know all the good words in four
more. I can translate English into Greece and Latin at the same time, I
have studied philosophy and demonology, along with mathematics and now I
face my most fearsome debating adversary.
Spike how can you say that? Danielle shouted as she stood up
from here chair and planted her fists on the table.
Im not interested in going into battle as a human, Spike
stated as he nursed his coffee cup. The whole gang was seated around the
dinning room table. Willow and Faith had both urged that they would
either all join or none at all. Everybody had said yes up to this point
except Spike.
You off all people shouldnt fear death? Danielle stated
firmly.
Oh I fear death cutie, you want to know what is like, its
darkness pure nothingness, Spike said as he stared into the cup. And I
want to wait as long as I can before I have to face it again, he
stated.
But the darkness was just because you died as a vampire,
Danielle said firmly as she looked around the table for support.
Hey I said all for one, Faith said with a shrug. Also I can
understand if Spikes afraid, she added. This caused something to snap
within Spike as Danielle observed the man standing up drawing himself to
his full height.
I am not afraid, he said firmly. Death is a scary thing
Kiddos and in most cases irreversible.
Still say you are scared, Faith said.
What happened next happened with an incredible speed, Spike flung
himself over the table and landed smack on top of Faith. Wrestling her
to the floor he grabbed her throat with both hands.
Never joke about death in my presence Faith, for it is no
laughing matter, he said and then let go of her and stood up.
Touchy much? Faith asked rubbing her throat.
Every night I wake up feeling like I have just been run
through, Spike explained. That is death and I relive it every night,
but if you kids want to commit suicide I think I better stick around and
make sure you dont, he said.
So youll join us? Willow asked.
Yes I will join your little band of white hats, Spike said.
But under one condition, he added
Name it? Willow exclaimed.
In battle I call the shots, he answered. You can play leader,
but when push comes to shove you do as I say, he said and pointed at
Willow.
I can live with that, Faith said with a shrug.
He is the most experienced, A.C. nodded.
Hey I just wanted him on board, Danielle said. Nice reserve
psychology by the way Faith, she said and gave the Slayers daughter
the thumbs up.
Anytime, Faith said. Willow you sure you dont want to be the
leader in battle? she asked.
Positive, Willow answered. I saw what it did to mom, she
added in a low voice.
Its settled then, Faith said as doom and gloom looked likely
to settle over Willow. Spike your our mentor and fearless field
commander, she added. Danielle youre the shy brainiac with the fire
inside and& hey were is everybody going? Im getting my superhero thing
on here! Faith exclaimed as the group drifted away from the table.
Well we won, Willow said when they were the only two remaining
at the table.
Yep got our little gang together, Faith said as she as she
made her way over to where Willow sat. Our mums will be so proud, she
stated.
Maybe, maybe not, Willow said. We still have a long way to go
before we have anything resembling an effective team, she said
thoughtfully.
Oh youll work something out, Faith said as she rubbed
Willows shoulders. Mmmhmm, Willow muttered. Sure& work&
something& out, she went on as Faith worked her magic.
I had a strange experience today, I didnt run away from Faith, oh I
locked myself in the bathroom after she left and Im still confused as
all hell. But I didnt run away. Is that a good or a bad thing?
