Slayer X

The Eternal Struggle is upon us all…

In a world where the clashes betweenorder and chaos have become ever more frequent and violent, where thousands upon thousands of beings have been called as Slayers and ordinary humans live in constant fear or denial of the world around them, for their protection there stands a single girl, one who stands above all others.

Working for the secretive Watcher Corporation she fights for the status quo and it is her duty to seek out and rescue new slayers before the forces of chaos or order discover them and since those who are called are much sought after by both sides, to be their champions, they're foot soldiers and much too often they're cannon fodder, she must act swiftly, for many join willingly while others are forced to fight. Those forced are the people she must save and those who won’t see the light she must neutralise.

She is Slayer X and in a world of neither good nor evil, she stands guard against the darkness of the Eternal Struggle.

When a new slayer is called forth it is our duty to ensure that she receives training and tutelage in the true ways of the World. One slayer gained by the Corps is one slayer lost to the pointless fighting between the forces of the universe. Another life saved from almost certain death. It is the duty of each Slayer loyal to the Corps that when a new slayer is discovered she or he shall be immediately delivered tothe nearest Corps’ safe house and kept safe from the forces of order and chaos whom would seek to enlist them until such time as they can be transported to Headquarters for medical and psychological care.

-From the Watcher Corporation mandate, section one paragraph one

Chapter One: New and Old

The memories always come back at night, they are the kind of memories that by day you think you have forgotten them, but they always find a way into your mind at night. White robed clerks telling her that it is her destiny to bring about order in the world, the training, the false memory implants, the torture at the hands of the chaos demons, the killing of her predecessor, everything mixed up in one nightmare. The beeping in her right ear woke her up and the audio implant activated, she didn’t remember where or when she had gotten it, but it was there.

            “Buffy, code 2000XALPHA,” she responded

“Buffy, it’s Willow we have a birthing in progress,” a female voice said into her air.

“I’m on my way,” she replied and swung out of her low bed.

Looking in the mirror as she dressedin her leathery jumpsuit, she paused as she studied the scars on her body, the starburst on her stomach she didn’t remember how she’d got it, but the one above her left eye was still fresh from her last mission that she did remember and the small X tattooed on her left shoulder was just her unofficial badge of office and means to identify her remains.

“Fuck it!” she said as she zipped up her suit and left her small apartment. Outside stood her bike, sleek and black, gleaming in the moonlight. Grinning as she swung herself onto it and the engine roared as she sped down the street.

The motorcycle sped through the streets of Los Angeles under the red sky from the fires that burned in various parts of the city. Full moon, both sides always got more aggressive on a full moon. Hitting the turbo button she picked up speed and the world blurred around her.

Pulling up against the Watcher Corporations building on the outskirts of the city she dismounted her bike and strode into the building. Waving to the night guard she made her way to the personal elevators.

“Slayer X,” she stated once inside the elevator and it started its climb up to the situation room.

The situation room never slept and it was a common joke within the Corps that they did in fact sleep, during the day in coffins. Standing in front of the interactive map that depicted the Los Angles divisions area of operations, the whole of North America, stood Dr. Willow D. Rosenberg, the division’s chief and Buffy’s supervisor, also the most normal person ever to serve as a head of a Watcher Corp’s division. Though the gossip mill said otherwise.

“She emerged fifteen minutes ago in Boston and she’s moving fast,” Willow explained without looking back from the map.

“She?” Buffy asked looking sideways at Willow’s face. Willow was slightly shorter than the Slayer, with her red hair business cut and piercing green eyes, she had been the chief of the division since before Buffy arrived and nothing happened in North America without her knowing about it.

“Humor me,” Willow said with a small smile.

“Why are you sending me, K is there and some of the trainees are taking classes there,” Buffy asked as the map zoomed in on Boston and the surrounding area.

“You’re the best,” Willow said. “Also Kendra is reporting massive structural damage and the other sides seem to be very interest in this latest one,” Willow explained. “She’s busy keeping them off her back and we need you to extract the new one.”

“The Host Guard showing up?” Buffy asked.

“Yes,” Willow nodded. “But this is not the time for vendettas your mission is to go in and get the new slayer out,” she stated. “The jump jet is waiting.”

“Understood,” Buffy nodded. “Anything I can get for you while i'm in Boston?”

“Just get back in one piece okay,” Willow said turning to look Buffy in the eyes, but the Slayer was gone. “So much potential,” Willow muttered to herself before turning her attention back to the map.

As it turned out the jump jet pilot was an old friend of hers. He’d been the one that had dragged her out of the chaos temple kicking and screaming all those years ago, it had cost him andeye and it was a wonder they still allowed him to fly. But then again nobody told him what to do.

“Hello luv,” William ‘Spike’ Wilde greeted as he tossed her a flight helmet.       “Spike you ever sleep?” Buffy asked as they walked towards the Harrier. Spike had been one of the early ones, or a first waver like they were called. When the war had started to spill into the mortal world a wide variety of beings had got slayerized, even vampires, which was what Spike had been. He was now a veteran whose experience surpassed every other active Slayer alive or dead. The Corps grapevine even suggested that he’d founded the Corps and that he was older than dirt, but that was just a rumor.

“I did, last week I think,” he answered with a grin. “You’llget the hang of it sooner or later,” he reassured her with a pat on her back. “Hope you had a light breakfast,” he said as he closed the canopy.

“Wake me up when we get there,” Buffy said and closed her eyes.

The jet lifted from the ground and then shot eastward across the night sky, leaving behind the city of Angles and heading out across the Rocky’s and the Great Plains of the Midwest. Here and there lights flared on the ground and soared to the sky evidence of the fighting going on below them. Aside from having to engage cloak while passing within a hundred miles of a squad of Angels, their journey across North America was uneventful.

Touching down on the outskirts of Boston, Spike popped open the canopy and Buffy jumped out and threw him her helmet.

“Thanks for the ride Spike, now get out of here before you get spotted,” she said.

“You need a weapon?” he asked.

“I am a weapon,” she answered as she took off into the city on foot.

“That girl is going to get herself killed one of these days,” he muttered to himself.

“Spike,” Willow’s voice crackled over the radio.

“Right here Red, package delivered safe and sound,” Spike said into his oxygen mask.

“Good, I need you to pick up one of our agents in Canada,” Willow said.

“Is it who I think it is?” Spike asked.

“The one and only,” Willow said with a grin.

“Bloody great,” Spike muttered as he threw the helmet in the back. “Pick-up duty,” he muttered.

“We all have our place William,” Willow said patiently.

“Yeah, but that’s a little harsh coming from you don’t you think?” he asked as he closed the canopy.

“Don’t know what you are talking about?” Willow stated.

“Oh come now Red, you can’t hide the mushy things from me,” Spike said with a grin. “I bet those pretty little emerald eyes are glued to themap and its set on highest resolution zoom on Boston,” he said.

“Just get going you old fart,” Willow ordered and cut the line.

“Touché,” Spike said as he clipped on the oxygen mask and took off again. Several hundred miles to the north, in the middle of the Territories a lone figure waited for his pick-up. Sitting by a small fire he rubbed his hands together and looked up at the stars thinking about the girl that waited for him back home.

There is an easy way to track to a new slayer, it isn’t in the guidebook, but you can’t miss it. Just follow the trail of destruction and you are sure to come upon your new slayer within a matter of minutes.

“K, you read?” Buffy asked through her implants.

“Loud and clear Slayer X,” Kendra answered. “I’m doing mop up duty making sure that the agents don’t any ideas about heading for the campus to recruit some of our trainees,”she explained.

“You got a bearing on the new one?” Buffy asked.

“You should be right on top of her,” Kendra said. “If not…”
“Don’t bother,” Buffy said as her sense tingled. “I think I just found her,” she said and shut down the link.

The scared girl ran across the street and Buffy picked up the tell tale smell of ozone and sulfur, that was not good because it meant that there was both an agent from order and another from chaos on the girl’s tail. The girl ran right into Buffy and then looked up at the Slayer with an uncanny calm in her eyes. Buffy just smiled, but it died when her ears picked up the telltale sounds of approaching danger and her stomach tightened.

“Behind me,” Buffy ordered the girl.

The girl was young perhaps fifteen maybe even younger, not uncommon, with long brown hair and brown eyes and would probably grow into a beautiful woman if she survived the next few minutes.

“Who are you?” the girl asked as the sounds of the girl’s chasers grew nearer.

“Slayer X,” Buffy asked and the girl gave her a puzzled looked. “Somebody like you who wants to help,” she said with sigh.

“Oh,” the girl said. “Nice to meet you X, I’m Faith Allison Spencer,” she said as she peaked over the Slayer’s shoulder. “I think we should run,” she suggested.

“Nope we… I have to fight them here or they’ll just come after us again,” Buffy said as she cracked her knuckles.

“You do this often?” Faith asked.

“All the time,” Buffy said as the chaos demon came charging down the street, turning over cars and plowing down mailboxes and parking meters as it went.It stood nine feet tall with horns and its massive bulk was covered with green scales. Snorting fire, its red eyes scanned for its pray while its tail twitched. Its eyes locked on Faith and Buffy and it charged again.

“Shouldn’t we like move?” Faith asked as the demon thundered closer with its arms outstretched. In a flash Buffy was off, running towards the demon at breakneck speed before hurling herself into the air. The demons' eyes went wide when it realized its mistake and felt Buffy’s foot slam into its face throwing it backwards. The demon landed with a thud on the ground and Buffy executed a backwards flip away from it and landed on her feet with feline grace. Punching the demon between the eyes for good measure she turned and exhaled.

            “Wow!” Faith muttered.

“Come on,” Buffy said as she picked Faith up and ran for the nearest safe house.

“What about the other one?” Faith asked.

“The Host Guard will kill the chaos demon before it goes after us,” Buffy explained.
“Oh!” Faith said as they ran through the city, behind them there was a loud clash as the Host Guard stumbled upon the fallen chaos demon.

The Harrier settled down near the fire and Spike reluctantly got out. He didn’t like the cold after all he’d been cold for two hundred years. Looking around for his pick-up he repressed a groan as it came into view, standing by the fire looking up at the sky, with his gray streaked and windswept hair.

            “Liam,” Spike called out.

“Hello William,” Liam ‘Angel’ Chase said. “Come to watch the stars with me?” he asked.

“Can’t you ever be serious?” Spike asked with a sigh.

“Why should I be?” Angel asked with a smile.

“Get in the plane poof,” Spike muttered as he turned away and marched towards the jet.

“You know what you need William?” Angel asked.

            “No enlighten me?” Spike asked.

            “A woman,” Angel answered.

“Oh those I have,” Spike replied with a grin.

“I didn’t mean women, I meant woman, THE woman,” Angel said.

“I know what you meant Liam,” Spike said. “But I am too old and too set in my ways,” he said and threw him the spare helmet.

“Suit yourself,” Angel said and strapped on the helmet.
The Harrier lifted from the frozen ground and shot towards the west, for the City of
Angels and Liam counted the minutes.
