The sound made by three jaws dropping simultaneouslycannot be described. Nor can the sound they make on the return journey. An example of a sound that can be described is what is about to come from Giles’ mouth. It sounds quite a lot like
“New slayer... but...” he trailed off. The fact that all three of the room’s other occupants all looked confused meant that Willow got confused too. She thought itwas a fairly simple concept. She said as much. “One slayerdies, next one’s called. That’s right isn’t it?” She was worried she had been misinformed. “Yes, that’s right, but the last slayer is” Giles gestured at Buffy “alive and kicking.” Buffy demonstrated the kicking part. She knocked a vase offGiles’ coffee table, which smashed as it hit the floor. He frowned. Willow suppressed a giggle. “Of course!” Giles exclaimed as he slapped his forehead “You drowned!” “You drowned?” Willow asked “I drowned,” Buffy replied, thinking it explanation enough. Willow continued to stare questioningly at her. “Not for long,” she added, “Giles was there and he gave me mouth to mouth, which despite being terribly icky I am grateful for as it saved my life.” Willow seemed satisfied with this extended clarification of matters. Catching on quickly, she turned to Giles. “So this means that there’s two slayers now?” “It certainly seems that way.” “Funky,” she commented, nodding her head. “Only on the Hellmouth,” Buffy joked. Willow dived into her knapsack, searching for something. When she found it she yanked it out and set it down on her lap. It was a medium sized paperback book, and as Willow opened it, Buffy was able to read the title from the front cover. “The Hitch Hiker's Guide to Sunnydale”. Buffy was intrigued, but let it slide for now as Willow seemed to have found what she was looking for.
Here is what the Hitch Hiker's Guide to Sunnydale has to say about Hellmouths: Hellmouths are known as such because they are the mouths by which you can enter Hell. There are seventeen known Hellmouths in the world, and the most powerful and notorious one can be found in Sunnydale, centred under the High School’s library. The frequency of Hellmouths across the globe has led many philosophers in the field to hypothesise that Hell has as many heads as it has mouths. Other philosophers of course find this notion preposterous and maintain that Hellonly has one head, which just has a lot of mouths. A not very oft told story is thatof a not very famous philosopher who decided to find out which theory was actually true. He decided that the best way to do this was to go in search of Hellnoses, Helleyes and Hellears and workout how many Hellheads there were by comparing the different amounts. He set off on his quest and wasn’t heard from for four years. When he returned, only one thing had changed. He was four years older. The lack of sensible conclusion to this story is one of the reasons it is not oft told.
Willow looked up from the book now brought up to speed on what a Hellmouth was, and where you can find one. The only thing she didn’t know that she thought it might be useful to was their mating habits. “I think weought to call it a night and continue this discussion in the morning,” interjected Giles. The others agreed. “Willow, you can...” but before he could finish, Buffy interrupted him “She can sleep with me.” Of course, it wasonly afterward she realised how that had sounded. “Uh, as in, she can sleep in my room,” she amended as she blushed ten shades of red, silently cursing Freud and his slip. As Willow raised an eyebrow, Giles signalled his agreement with Buffy’s suggestion. The four of them headed upstairs, with Buffy helping Willow all the way. At the top of the stairs, Buffy said goodnight to Giles and her mom,and guided Willow to her room.
At this time, unbeknownst to the occupants of the house, the creature that Buffy had failed to notice earlier that night was now not being noticed lurking outside the house. However, this time, it was scratching its head, as the device it held appeared to be malfunctioning. It can also now be revealed that this ‘creature’ is in fact human.
“How come you live with your watcher?” Willow asked as she started to get changed “Well, I only kinda live with him. Me and my mom havea house a couple of streets away, but as we spend a lot of time here too, I have a room here.” “That was your mom?” “Yeah.” “So she’s like... with your watcher?” “Yeah.” Buffy decided to change the subject. “So what brings you to Sunnydale anyway?” “Long story,” Willow sighed. “Suffice to say my watcher said that I wouldn’t be ableto keep my little girl,” she continued as she gently patted her stomach, “but not before he told me about how the last slayer and her watcher had defied council policy. So I decided to findMr Giles and ask for his help. You being here is a bonus,” she concluded, causing Buffy to blush again. Both had now finished getting changed and turned to face each other. “So where do I sleep?” asked Willow, already knowing the answer. “Um, well... I was thinking we would both sleep in the bed, I mean it is a double, plenty of room, and” “That’s fine” Willow said, cutting her off. She was enjoying the effect she had on the girl, and the effect the girl had on her. They both climbed into bed and made themselves comfortable.
Will Buffy confess her feelings for Willow? Will Willow confess her feelings for Buffy? And more importantly, what compromising situation are they going to wake up in? All this and more, next time, on the Hitch Hiker's Guide to Sunnydale.
