OT: Regarding YahooGroups survey

First let me apologize for the crossposting and the off-topicness
of this message, but I thought it was important enough to warrant
such measures.

Yahoo is currently doing a survey do determent whether or not they
should start a pay-for "Premium Service" under YahooGroups with
extra features and no adds.

If you answer that you *are not* administrating any groups,
you'll be presented for YahooGroups new and improved -- but
unfortunately paid -- Premium Service, with *no* adds added
to the groups mail, and no adds added when viewing the
archive. Even *I* have to admit this is useful...

But what they are *not* telling you -- unless you replied
you were an administrator for a group -- is that they intend
do *dramatically* shave-off features on the *Free* service.

They will limit the numbers of new members added each day --
as well as total each month.

They will also decrease the space for sharing files and photos.

The most important and the *worst* however, is that they intend
to limit the size of the message-archive -- for *both* the Free
and the Premium service... For the Premium there will be a limit
of 25MB... and for the Free there will be the *ridiculously low*
limit of just 2MB.

I hope you all will pass-on your dissatisfaction about this
to Yahoo in the survey -- as well as by e-mails, postcards and
angry phone calls. :-)

I also hope that list-owners takes steps to rescue archives,
that for many lists constitutes years of history -- and
thousands of opinions, stories and other things.

Yahoo has pushed us far enough, and it's time to make it clear
that we won't be pushed any further. If they continue down
this path, I'll demand that they (Yahoo) are helpful with
migrating lists -- *with* archives to new and better homes.

Since many lists has been taken over by Yahoo from OneList and
eGroups, I question Yahoo's ownership of them. Besides, if
Yahoo feel they can't afford to take proper care of the lists,
they should transfer them over to someone who can!

What Yahoo fails to understand, is that if we could afford --
or was willing to pay for -- a paid service, we wouldn't
have signed-up for a free service in the first place... and
if we would, we would have chosen a more professional provider
than Yahoo.

remain the same as what Yahoo! Groups currently offered but
some limit would be put on the message archive storage and
