(detailed discussion of ep 2.7 "Lie to Me". Doesn't need spoiler space,
but if you haven't seen and are saving yourself for the DVDs on 6/11,
you may want to pass)
No tears for Ford here.
It was impossible for Buffy to take on all those vamps at once (this was
before Marti had her dust seven at once in "Into the Woods", and none of
those were Spike-caliber, anyway). That's why Buffy had to take Dru
hostage.
Also, what happened to Ford was what Ford wanted to happen. He
bargained, schemed, lied and betrayed to become a vampire. Failing to
stop a suicide isn't murder. And when she told him that what he was
doing was wrong, and offered him a chance to help her, he attacked her
from behind. Even if he had been conscious when Buffy got Joan/Sister
Sunshine/Chantarelle/Lily/Anne and the other wannabes out, he wouldn't
have left.
So, not facing impossible odds to forcibly remove someone from their
suicide attempt doesn't strike me as killing, nope.
