Re: Re: New Promo?

Jennpurr,

I've skipped most of the repeats myself, so I understand how you feel.
I much prefer to watch my DVDs and tapes of Seasons 1-3 (tapes only for
S3, as the DVDs won't be out until Jan. in the US).

The airing of the UPN "Turn it up" promo that I saw was during the July
2nd repeat of "Once More With Feeling". If you taped this repeat or
stored it in your DVR (TiVo, UltimateTV) storage, the promo airs during
the break between Acts 3 and 4.

BtVS scenes shown are:

A Hellion flinging a Molotov Cocktail ("Bargaining, Part 2")

Buffy demanding of Spike "Tell me you want me" and a jump-cut to the
ensuing Spuffy kiss, ("As You Were")

Shots of the clock tower, the Gentlemen's voice box and the Gentlemen
("Hush"). These shots were in a fast montage after the slogan "Turn it
up, y'all" flashed. (UPN is able to use shots from "Hush", "The Body"
and "Buffy vs. Dracula" because they aired reruns of those episodes this
past year, and so retain the rights to use them as indicative of UPN
programming.)

Buffy dropping down to near something, wearing a red top, her hair
pulled back. (I thought this was "The Body", with her trying to CPR
Joyce, but the top is different. So I don't know.)

The camera circling Spike in his crypt ("Gone"). Note: this is not
the actual ep, but the altered footage for UPN's promo for the ep, where
Spike appears to bathed in a white light.
Buffy high-kicking the M'Fashnik demon at the bank. ("Flooded")

A montage of shots as the new UPN logo moves towards the camera. Along
with shots from other UPN series, these include: two Gentlemen
("Hush"), Buffy racing through the cemetery ("Buffy vs. Dracula") and
Dracula (ibid).

Spike being pressed against the wall and having his shirt ripped off by
InvisiBuffy ("Gone").

The logo montage repeated twice more.

A final promo shot of SMG posing against a red background.

**************************

So, to sum up, UPN's idea of BtVS is "monsters, Spuffy love, Spuffy
kiss, monsters, unknown Buffy shot, sexy Spike, Buffy kicking, monsters,
semi-nude Spike." Charming. Two solo shots of Spike and only one of
the alleged star (plus one in the logo montage, and one of her stunt
double kicking someone).

A bitter pill, given the emphasis on "action", is the omission of any
Villow shots. Not that I want Villow to be UPN's image of the character
(I don't want any pictures of her in Aly's credits next year, either),
but seeing as they killed Tara and ruined Willow because "Evil Willow is
gonna rock, dude!!" it's a bitter pill that UPN, apparently, thinks that
she didn't. All that for nothing; what a waste.

OTOH, the fact that SMG (and SMG only) is called upon to do the
end-of-promo posing means that UPN still thinks of Buffy as its most
important show, despite the struggles of last year and
less-than-expected ratings. Nice to know that if the show gets good
again, it will still have network support.

Dan
PS"Turn it up, Y'ALL??" Jeez, did Buffy jump to the Confederate
Broadcasting Company or something?

Coming up next year, Spike discovers that he's Bo and Luke Duke's
long-lost cousin, Brit Duke, and goes racing around in the General Lee,
while Sheriff Lobo and the Watchers' Council try to catch him...
