I step under the warm spray of the shower and I ponder over what to wear. I
frown when I realise that I didn’t have anything that nice two years ago. Or
now. Whatever. A smile emerges as I remember the outfit I had bought to
impress Xander, that is, when I had a crush on him.

Would he notice that I have changed? I used to be so shy and considered a
geek, but I did open up around Xander and Jesse.

Jesse. His name rolls around the inside of my head. I’m not sure what to
make of what I think. I want to see him, he was a very good friend, but it’s
been so long since he died.

Tonight was the night of his death and I have the chance to stop it from
happening. But I argue with myself whether I should or not. I only came back
to stop Buffy from meeting Angel. What else would change if I did manage to
save him from the vampires?

Would someone else die? A terrifying thought enters my head; what if Buffy
dies. After all, Jesse played a part in our escape. I couldn’t handle it if
Buffy died.

No, I decide, things will have to take their course.

I realise that I have been just standing under the water for much too long
and I snap out of my thoughts. After washing quickly, I step out and dry
myself off. I don’t want to be late for meeting Buffy.

I walk up to the front door like I have countless times before. But this is
meant to be the first time. I knock and wait.

A moment later, Joyce opens the door, “Hi...Mrs. Summers. Is Buffy ready?” I
almost slipped again. I’m not supposed to know her first name, besides, it’s
rude to address an adult you don’t know by their first name.

“Oh, hello, Willow. Yes she is.” She moves a step back into the house and
opens the door a little more, “Come in.”

I smile politely and enter the house. I love the way it smells. It smells
like Buffy. I look around discreetly, it’s just how I remember it was. My
attention is taken off of my surroundings as I hear someone coming down the
stairs.

“Hey Willow!” Buffy smiles and skips the last few steps down to me. She is
wearing the same thing she was the first time she went to The Bronze; blue
jacket over a white tank top, black pants and sensible black boots.

I return the smile, “Hey,” I start to go to hug her, it seems so natural,
but instead I say, “Ready to go?”

She nods and opens the front door, shouting back to Joyce that we are
leaving. She is so excited, it reminds me of a child on the way to the fair.
Seeing her like this makes me so happy. I wish she could stay this way
forever.
