OF HUMAN BONDING
Part 2. THE TREE AND THE RIVER
Sometimes, I'm so glad I'm allowed to be with you, to be a part of
your life, that I could cry--and somehow, this sentence seems a little
awkward...oh well!
You're such a remarkable person: you're strong and beautiful, you're
reliable, you're courageous.
You're like a river, meandering through the countryside, from the
mountains to the sea. You're flowing slowly sometimes, and sometimes
fast. In one moment, you're a thundering waterfall (I can almost feel
the spray). In another you're a country's lifeline, irrigating a
desert full of thirsting roses.
You know, being with you (or should I say: standing beside you) is
bringing out the best in me. I've grown so much since I know you. I'm
not the shy, geeky girl anymore that I once was (a thirsting tree?).
Because I now know who I am, through you, and where I am: beside you.
Sometimes, I wish I knew a way how to thank you for what I have
become, because of you.
Being with you is like shelter from the storm. You're there when I
need someone to protect me from the hazards of a life on the
Hellmouth. You're there when I need someone to talk to. You're there
if I need someone to cheer me up.
It's you, always you. It's always been you. My river.
When we're together, and others are there as well, it's like swimming
with the current. They all get a part of you: your smile, your advice,
your helping hand.
But I know, deep inside, that I want more. That's a part of me I don't
allow to come to the surface. Certainly not when others are near, and
not even when we're alone. That's the me that is longing to drown in
the beauty that is you. Longing to drown in your eyes, those brown
orbs of a depth that I can't even imagine. Longing to drown in the
shampoo smell of your golden hair. Longing to drown in an endless
moment kissing your luscious lips. Longing, sometimes, to drown in
your sex, your waters engulfing me.
They still may have your smile, your advice, your helping hand. But
I--
I would like to have your heart.
The heart of a river.

Buffy put down the sheet that Willow had given her. Now she knew why
the witch had kissed her in the desert. 'It's from my diary. I wrote
it some years ago,' Willow had said. The blonde looked out on the
river, trying to find her composure again, then at her friend who was
eagerly awaiting her reaction. Buffy pulled the redhead into her arms
and kissed her tenderly.
A sudden gust of wind snatched the piece of paper from her hand and
carried it far out onto the water. Buffy didn't mind--the words her
friend had written had made an indelible impression on her.
Another gust hit them, causing Willow to reluctantly break the kiss.
She quickly grabbed the Slayer by her hand and pulled her towards the
jeep that was parked some yards away.
Once they were inside, they continued where they had left off a moment
ago.
"You have it, you know," Buffy quitely said when they broke the kiss
an endless moment later.
"What?"
"My heart..."
The first raindrop hit the windshield.
