“You gotta be kidding me!” Buffy exclaimed and Willow could only nod before both started laughing at the poor librarian who stood before them.

“I don’t understand.” The girls sobered up somewhat at the hurt _expression_ on his face and after a few seconds of deep breathing Buffy answered her watcher.

“Giles. You have all that fancy watcher training and a couple millennia of historical background of slayer knowledge and god knows what… And the only test you can come up with is arm wrestling??” Buffy asked, which sat off Willow again and soon both were laughing hard and holding their bellies. Giles merely watched and waited. It did take a while, but they eventually calmed down and looked at each other.Willow straightened and put her elbow on the table.

“Let’s get this over with, Buff. I hope I won’ hurt myself,” Willow said self-consciously and smiled over the table at her friend. The tension between them had lessened a bit, but Willow knew Buffy wouldn’t let, what had happened, go. The confrontation seemed tobe postponed, though since all Buffy did was smile back and mirror Willow’s position at the table. Their hands touched and both girls shuddered at the contact.

“Start whenever you are ready,” Giles told them, oblivious to their reactions.

“Ready?” Buffy asked and Willow nodded. The slayer slowly increased the pressure of her hold on her friend’s hand and almost immediately Willow was pushed back. Willow had a weird look on her face.

“You okay, Will?” Buffy asked without stopping their little competition.

“Yeah, it’s just… I think I can… look at this!” And with that Willow pushed against Buffy’s hand and to the surprise of all present Willow’s arm rose steadily until both their arms were upright again. Buffy had to use all her strength, but even then it took almost twenty seconds until she’d beat Willow.

A thin line of sweat was on both their faces as they let go of each other’s hand. Simultaneously they looked at Giles who stepped up to Willow and peeled away the bandage Buffy had tried to remove earlier. The gauze came away to reveal two round puncture wounds, the area around them was tainted red from the blood Willow had lost, but the wounds itself did no longer bleed. “There’s already a thin layer of new skin, these wounds will be completely healed by tomorrow.”

Buffy stared at Willow’s wound as new flashes rushed through her head.

//Her tongue running along Willow’s. The taste of her friend’s blood in her mouth. Biting her own tongue before seeking Willow’s mouth again.\\

Giles and Willow were talking as her head cleared a few seconds later.

“…have slayer strength, speed and healing. It is amazing Willow. We need to find out how this happened and-”

“I turned her,” Buffy interrupted him.

“Buffy, we talked about that already. Willow is no vampire, I do indeed believe that she is a slayer instead.”

“I know. I turned her. Into a slayer. I bit her and made her drink my blood, but she didn’t die and I wasn’t dead either. I did not create a new demon with my attack, but a new slayer.”

“I don’t understand, Buffy.”

“A vampire has the ability to turn somebody who is close to death with the power of his blood. He turns him or her into an un-dead like himself. Only in my case, I wasn’t dead. I had a reflection and I’m pretty sure I felt my blood rushing through my veins. I wasn’t dead, so when I turned Willow, I did not turn her into an un-dead supernatural being, but into the living part of me that is supernatural. A slayer.”

Nobody knew what to say. Silence descended over the library.

Until the doors swung open to reveal Hank Summers. “Buffy! There you are! How’s my favourite girl? Did yo have an interesting day?”

“You have no idea, dad.”

Hank Summers looked around the library where he’d found his daughter. With her were a red headed girl of about his daughter’s age and an eerily familiar looking librarian.

“Are you ready to go Buffy?” he asked as neither of the others did anything.

“What? Oh, yeah, sure. Dad, this is Mr. Giles, the school librarian and a good friend he helps me with everything sl…. School related. And this is my best friend, Willow.” Buffy pulled the redheaded girl closer as Hank and Giles shook hands. The librarian guy seemed nice enough. They smiled at each other with the uneasiness of complete strangers, before Hank turned back to his daughter and her friend.

“Can Willow come with us this week-end?” Buffy asked before anything else could be said. The girl, Willow, seemed to be as surprised as Hank was. “We have a school project to finish till Monday and I don’t know when we could work on it otherwise. Besides the more time I’m with Will the less time I can spend with your credit card.” Buffy smiled her best smile at him, but once again Hank couldn’t get a spare word in as this time Willow spoke up.

“Buffy, no, this is your quality dad-time. I know how much you’ve been looking forward to this week-end. I can just… work on that project with Giles. You go have fun with your dad.”

“Actually-“ Hank started, but Buffy interrupted.

“No way, Will. I won’t leave you alone with… ah, all that work. I’m sure dad won’t mind.”

“Well-“

“No Buffy, I couldn’t impose on you and your dad like that-”

“CAN I SAY SOMETHING?” Hank Summers shouted over the arguing voices of the girls. “Thank you,” he added when both fell silent and whirled around to face him. “As I’ve been trying to say, a couple of times, Willow is welcome to join us.I actually have a meeting tomorrow at noon and I’d feel less bad about leaving Buffy alone if there was someone with her.” He tooka deep breath and watched a grin form on his daughter’s face.

“Cool, we’re all set then. Willow, go pack some stuff. Dad and I will go home and get my bag and then we’ll come by your place. Are your parents home?”

“No. Conference. Massachusetts,” Willow answered, defeated.

“Just leave them a note or something should they come home early. See ya in a bit. Come on dad, I forgot my bag at home, let’s get it.”

With that Hank Summers found himself dragged out of Sunnydale High by his daughter. All he could do was turn around awkwardly and wave at Giles and Willow who returned the gesture before the library doors swung closed.

Willow and Giles both stood with their hands raised to wave as they watched the Summers leave. “You want a ride home Willow?”

“Yes please.”

With their departure the library was finally silent.

“What are you thinking Willow?” Giles asked once they’d left the parking lot.

Willow was still weary of the... thing Giles called a car, but that wasn’t the reason she nervously looked out the window. Her nervousness was routed in her need to talk to somebody about what had happened with her and Buffy in the bathroom that day. All other shocks about powers and abilities seemed so unreal, but that kiss… it had definitely been real as was her desire to repeat it… She shook her head and looked at Giles. “Sorry, what did you say?”

“I asked what you were thinking. It must be hard to learn of something like this. I would understand if you were panicking.”

“Yeah, a little. You know Giles, this changes my whole perception of myself. I never thought I would be in this position. I mean look at me. Willow Rosenberg, shy Jewish geek with a hopeless crush and few friends, whose parents are never home and who has nothing better to do on a Friday night than doing her homework. Andnow this! What am I gonna do? What will the others think? How would my parents react? Can I keep this a secret?”

“Willow stop!” Giles shouted. “I know that there are a lot of changes coming, but you cannot allow yourself to panic. We’ll figure the details out when you get back. Just enjoy the week-end with Buffy. Get away from it all and all will seem better after a good night’s sleep.”

‘How could I get away from it all with Buffy by my side the whole time?’ Willow asked herself, before she remembered that she and Giles weren’t talking about the same thing.

“You’re right Giles. I should know better than this. I’ll talk with Buffy about the slayer powers and I’m sure she’ll help me get through this. Thank you. For letting me ramble about it.” ‘Even though we weren’t talking about the same thing,’ Willow added silently.

“You are welcome, Willow. You know you can always come and talk to me. Even more so now. I presume I will also be your watcher, I doubt the council would send another watcher to Sunnydale.”

“About that Giles, could we wait till we told the council? At least until we know if my powers are permanent.”

“Uh, of course, Willow. May I ask why?”

“Just… I just feel like I couldn’t deal with the added pressure of their expectations, not on top of it all. Please?”

“I won’t contact them.”

“Thank you Giles.” The car was slowingas they approached Willow’s home and the girl smiled at the older man. “And thanks for the ride Giles. I have to hurry, Buffy will be here soon and I still have to pack and call Xander. I’ll see you on Monday.”

“Have a safe trip, Willow.”

“I will, bye Giles.”

Echoing her words Giles left and Willow hurried to her house to pack.

It was going to be an interesting week-end.
