OT; Observations on "Destiny" (SPOILER)

Okay, I know not many of you out there still follow Angel, but out of respect for those who do, I'll use spoiler space.

I saw "Destiny" last night. While the 'spreading madness' plotline was done before (as early as first season Star Trek), the main plotline regarding the rivalry between Angel and Spike, IMO, may have put Spike's (I guess the word is) relationship with Buffy in a whole new, and much less romantic light.

The main story involved Angel and Spike fighting for something called the Cup of Eternal Torment, which would make any vampire who drinks from it human. Spike wins the battle and reaches for the cup. Angel warns him "That cup isn't a prize, it's a burden. Trust me, I know. So ask yourself; is this something you really want, or do you just want to keep me from having it?" Spike glares at Angel for a second before quipping, "Bit of both, actually," t hen grabs the Cup. Which turns out to be a hoax; it's filled with Mountain Dew!

Anyway, the point seems to be that Spike, for all his having a soul and all, is not a nice person. From this exchange it can be seen that one of the main motivating forces in Spike's life is oneupsmanship against his grandsire. Perhaps the main reason he coveted Buffy was because she was once Angel's. Makes his vows of devotion in Season Seven ring all the more hollow.

I also read on Aint-it-cool-news.com that in episode 5/11(which may not air until January), that Spike learns Buffy's current whereabouts(Italy), and that she is unaware of his resurrection. And he likes it that way.
