Chapter 4 – Floating on Frozen

“So where did B say she was going again?” Faith asked, her arm wrapped around Dawn’s shoulders on the living room couch, and her feet resting on the coffee table.

“Somewhere,” Dawn sighed, her attention devoted solely to the Slayer she was snuggling up to.

“Some, as in?”

“Where,” Dawn answered.

“I got that part, D.  But any more specifics?”

”Nope.”

”Weird.”

”Weird, how?” Dawn questioned, as she snuggled further into Faith’s warm body.

”Well, B, normally tells me where she’s going.”  Faith ran her hand up and down Dawn’s bare arm, eliciting a shiver of delight from the young woman.

“I’m sure she’ll be okay.  Willow just said that they were going somewhere and for me not to worry about it.”

Willow.”  Faith ground her teeth.  “Wouldn’t you call that a specific?”

”Not really.  More like a vague assurance.”  Dawn nuzzled her face into the crook of Faith’s neck.  “What’s the matter?” Dawn pouted, wrapping her arm around Faith.

“Nothing,” Faith exhaled, enjoying the soft embrace of the younger Summers sister, but at the same time, worried about the whereabouts of Buffy.

*****

“So why am I blindfolded again?” Buffy asked, as she sat strapped into the passenger side seat of the car Willow was driving.

“It’s a surprise,” Willow teased, continuing down the darkening street, as the sun began to set.

“How long have we known each other, Will?”

”Don’t you know?”

”Yes, but I was trying to make a point.”

“And what point was that?”

”That I don’t particularly like surprises.”

”I know, which is why you’ll love this one.”

”Did I also mention that I don’t like surprises that require me to be blindfolded?”

”Nope.”

’Clonk, Clonk’

“What’s that noise I keep hearing from the back seat?” Buffy grumbled.

“Nothing.”

“If that’s nothing, then I’m afraid to know what something is.”

”Don’t worry about it, Buffy.  Just be patient.”

“Patient and Slayer don’t really go together, Will,” Buffy replied, itching to take the blindfold off.

”I know, I know, but please.  For me?”

”Ohhh, m’okay.”

”Great.  It won’t be much longer,” Willow grinned.

*****

Faith tip-toed up the stairs, making as little noise as possible, as she went in search of a hiding Dawn.

The fact that she was tip-toeing, meant she looked ridiculous, but since no one was actually watching, except for possibly, Dawn, Faith couldn’t have cared less.

‘Creak’

Faith stopped instantly, pin-pointing the location of the slight noise, before bolting to Dawn’s closet and opening the door to reveal Dawn hiding underneath a pile of clothes.

Faith grabbed the clothes that Dawn was hiding under and tossed them aside.

“Boo?” Dawn smiled.

“Too easy, D.” Faith shook her head.

“That’s cuz you got Slayer hearing,” Dawn pouted, as Faith offered the younger brunette a hand up.

“No, it’s because you hide out in the open.”

Dawn frowned at the statement and refused to take the offered hand, instead, wrapping her arms around herself.

‘Not again,’ Faith mentally sighed, as she moved to sit down next to Dawn.

Dawn continued to frown.

Faith exhaled and wrapped her arm around Dawn's shoulders.  The dark-haired Slayer tilted her head to the side and lowered her face, then looked up at the still pouting Dawn.  She continued to lower her head until she could see a smile begin to form on Dawn's lips.

“Stop doing that,” Dawn demanded while trying to stop from smiling.

“Doing what?” Faith replied as she shrugged her shoulders.

“You know what.”

“Oh,” a glint of mischief appeared In Faith's eyes,” you mean this?” Faith grinned as she pounced on Dawn and began tickling the young brunette's mercilessly.

Dawn began laughing, giggling, and gasping for breath as Faith poked Dawn in the ribs.

“Stop that,” Dawn pleaded between giggles, but Faith didn't relent.

Faith let her fingers wander to Dawn's tummy and began tickling her sensitive stomach.

Dawn tried to use her legs to kick out of Faith's tormenting fingers but Faith continued to tickle Dawn's tummy and ribs.

Before Faith knew it, her fingers had slipped underneath Dawn's tight tank top.  Realizing this, Faith quickly withdrew her left hand from underneath the front of Dawn's shirt.  Faith also stopped tickling Dawn and backed up.

Dawn saw the look on Faith's face as the Slayer averted her eyes and clumsily hit her head on a box stacked up behind her in the closet.

“That's what,” Dawn pouted.

“Sorry Dawn,” Faith apologized,” it's just...”

“Buffy?”  Dawn finished.

“No, it's just...”

“I'm too young, right?”

Faith didn't respond.  She just kept her chin firmly planted into her own chest.

Dawn huffed, stood up, and stormed out of the room.

*****

“Are we there yet,” Buffy whined, pulling at her blindfold.

“No,” Willow hushed as she slapped Buffy's offending hand away from her blindfold.

“Ouch,” Buffy pouted.”  If I knew I was going to be hit while blindfolded, I wouldn't have agreed to this surprise.”

“You call that a hit?”  Willow laughed.  “I thought slayers had a higher threshold of pain.”

“That's just a myth.  Slayers really feel more pain then the average person. We just hide it better.”

“If that's true, then I guess I shouldn't hit you over the head with this mallet.”

“So that's what's been banging around the back seat all this time,” Buffy drawled.

“Got me,” Willow smiled.

“So, are we there...”

Before Buffy could finish her question, her body flung forward, her momentum only stopped by the seatbelt strapped around her body.

“What was that?”  Buffy shouted.

“Yes,” Willow answered.

“What?”

“Yes, we're here,” Willow grinned.

“Good, I can finally take off this blindfold,” Buffy breathed as she reached to pull it off.

“Hey, who said you could take that off?” Willow asked, as she grabbed Buffy's wrists and held them together.

“You did, remember?  You said that I could take this off as soon as we got where you wanted to go.”

“In that case, we're not there just yet.”

“But you just said...”

“We're here.  Yes, but I didn't say we were at our final destination,” Willow argued.  The redhead's face was mere inches from Buffy's.  Willow's lips were so close to touching her friend's when she spoke.

She could smell the sweet scent of Buffy's perfume.  Willow knew that scent well.  The redhead reached down and unbuckled Buffy’s seatbelt, intentionally brushing her fingers up against Buffy’s hip.

Buffy jumped at the intimate contact.

“Easy, Buffy, don’t hit your head jumping out of the seat.”

“Sorry, but a warning would have been nice.”

”Warning about what?”

Buffy thought for a moment, then answered, “Nothing.”

Willow smirked, knowing exactly what she’d done.  A huge part of her was shouting ‘Bad Willow!’ but the other part of her was screaming, “Now or never.”

“Okay Buffy, just wait till I get out of the car and then I can lead you to where we’re going.”

”Fine, just hurry it up.  Slayer’s don’t like being blind,” Buffy complained.

“No problem.”

Willow slid past Buffy’s body, enjoying the contact between their bodies, as she exited out of Buffy’s side of the car.

Buffy exhaled, expecting Willow to get out by the driver’s side and not the passenger’s side.

“Okay.”

Willow took Buffy’s hand and led her out of the vehicle.

“Don’t hit your head, Buffy.”

Just as Willow warned the Slayer, the blonde’s head smacked hard against rigid plastic.

“Ouch!”

”Sorry,” Willow apologized.

Buffy began rubbing her head, but Willow replaced Buffy’s hand with her own.  The redhead massaged Buffy’s bump and apologized a zillion times.

“That’s okay, just don’t make a habit of it.  I’ve had enough head bumps lately to last a lifetime,” Buffy replied.  The Slayer’s mind raced back to the scene of Faith comforting her when Buffy had bumped her head at Faith’s old place.

“I swear, I won’t,” Willow reassured her friend, before gently kissing Buffy’s boo boo.”

Although, Willow’s kiss of Buffy’s bump was expected, Buffy didn’t expect it to last quite so long.  Willow’s lips seemed to linger on Buffy’s head.

Maybe it was only because Buffy had recently found out she was into girls, that she had thought it was too long.  But the Slayer couldn’t help but feel it was something more.

After lingering on that thought, Buffy snapped herself out of it and told herself that she was being crazy.

Willow grabbed what she had in the back of the car, then led Buffy for a little ways before stopping and knocking on a door.

Buffy heard the door creak open, but didn’t hear Willow greet anyone.

”Come on Buffy, we’re almost there.”

Buffy grumbled, but complied, letting Willow lead her down some hallways before finally stopping.

“We’re here Buffy!” Willow announced happily, before she stepped behind Buffy and slipped off the Slayer’s blindfold.

Buffy’s jaw dropped as she looked between Willow holding ice skates and the empty ice rink.

Well, the rink was empty except for a blonde girl standing in the middle of it.  The girl held a big red sign that read “Reserved for Slayer and Friend.”

Willow smiled and enthusiastically waved to Tara down below.  Tara waved back.

“Who’s she?” Buffy asked.

“A friend I met a few weeks ago.”

”How’d you reserve this place for us? And does she have something to do with this?”

”You ask too many questions, Buffy.”

Willow passed Buffy’s ice skates to the Slayer before looping her arm through the blonde’s.

“Come on, let’s get down there and use up our private ice time.”

Buffy followed, or more like she was dragged down to the rink.  The Slayer was still unsure about the situation.

“Hi, Buffy,” the blonde on the ice greeted.

“Hi, … I’m sorry, I don’t know your name,” Buffy replied.

“No need to apologize.  I’m Tara,” Tara smiled and offered her hand.

Buffy shook Tara’s hand.

“Hi Tara, nice to meet you.  So your Willow’s new friend?”

”Yup.”

”How’d you girls reserve this place?” Buffy asked.

“You ask too many questions,” Tara smiled.

“Doesn’t anyone give straight answers here,” Buffy laughed.

“Nope,” Willow answered.  “Come on, let’s put on our skates and dance,” Willow smiled.

“I’ll leave you two alone now that you’ve got here,” Tara grinned before she skated off the ice.

“Where are you going?” Buffy shouted, as Tara left the ice.

“Not far,” Tara shouted back.

“What kind of answer was that?” Buffy whispered to Willow.

“The kind she loves to give all the time.”

”She does that with you too?”

”Yup.  You mean, you thought you were special?” Willow drawled.

“Well, yeah,” Buffy answered, a hint of a smile showing at the corning of her mouth.

“You’re right.  You are special,” Willow smiled as she looked into the deep blue eyes of her best friend.  “Um,” Willow averted her eyes and blushed when she realized what she was doing.  “Lets put on our skates.”

Buffy exhaled and blushed herself, not knowing exactly what had just transpired.

Tara watched from the uppermost level of the ice rink, as Buffy and Willow skated.

Part of the blonde smiled as she watched Buffy and Willow laugh, giggle and hug.  Another part of Tara grew depressed, as she knew that the closer Buffy and Willow got, the more her true plans would be ruined.

But she had to know if Buffy and Willow were meant for each other first.  Otherwise, she would never forgive herself for what she had to do.

To be continued.
