Wild Angels

Between the perfect world and the bottem line,
Keeping love alive in these troubled times.
Well, it?s a miracle in itself.
And we know too well what that?s about.
Still we made it though, only God knows how.
We must have had a little help.

It must?ve been Wild Angels.
Wild Angels.
Watching over you and me.
Wild Angels, Wild Angels.
Baby, what else could it be.

The argument had been decidedly stupid, Buffy decided as she walked along feeling sorry for herself. When was she going to learn not to take her friend for granted? She asked herself, kicking a rock and sending it skidding ahead of her, for no other reason then it helped her feel a smidgeon better.

She didn?t even know who had started the argument. All Buffy could remember was feeling a little down after returning from patrol, the Slayage had been off, possibly due to the fact that Adam was still running around at large, and she had been looking forward to just relaxing with her best friend...maybe getting some ice cream and chatting like they used to do, or going to the Bronze. Seeing Willow and Tara studying on Willow?s bed as she had entered the dorm room had changed her plans dramatically and she had snapped at the red head, asking her if the little witch had to be around all the time.

Willow and Tara had looked up and stared at her, Tara looking like a frozen rabbit who had just gotten cornered by the cunning fox, and Willow looking at first shocked, then angered at her friend?s rudeness.

?Well at least she?s around. You never are...always disappearing somewhere...taking off by yourself...leaving other people to worry about you.? Willow had said, her green eyes flashing with fire.

It was true, Buffy reflected morosely. Buffy had spent alot of time by herself, avoiding Riley and the others, and thinking, mostly about the changes that had been happening in her life. Over her Freshman year in college, she had allowed herself to grow distant from her friends. It hadn?t been intentional, but it had happened, creating a rift between them she didn?t know if she could fix.

Then of course, there was the added pressure of being hopelessly in love with her best friend. That revelation had hit from out of nowhere, it seemed, when she had been confronted with the reality of Tara.

Tara was everything she wasn?t: shy, soft-spoken, demure. The only thing they really had in common was the color of their hair...both blondes. In fact Tara was more like the Willow she used to know. Buffy couldn?t help wondering if the red head had just fallen in love with herself. It didn?t make much sense to Buffy, but she supposed it didn?t really have to. In the end, she felt that she had lost Willow, as best friend and anything more.

The fight had escalated until Buffy had seen red and left the room before she could do any permanent damage, at least that?s what she hoped.

After the fight with Buffy, Willow decided to take a walk to clear her head. Tara had asked if she could come with her, but Willow didn?t want to take her bad mood on her new friend so she said that it might be better if she went by herself.

Now, walking alone through the park, she wondered if that had been such a good idea. She had made sure to bring a stake along with her, just in case, but she didn?t know how effective one stake would be if a whole pack of vampires decided to descend upon her. She wondered if she would run into Buffy out here, half hoping she would so she?d have somebody to walk back to the dorm room with her, and half hoping that she wouldn?t because she was still mad at her.

She lost her train of thought when she heard a branch break behind her. Quickly swiveling her head, she tried to see through the darkness, hoping against all hope that she didn?t have some demon or vampire trailing her. Of course this is SunnyDale, and she was right on top of a Hellmouth, so of course there was a vampire behind her. Not just one, but several. She gulped against the sudden fear that had risen up in her throat, feeling her heart hammering away like a jackhammer. She waved stupidly at the band of vampires, seeing their returning lethal grins as they sized up their prey. Knowing she didn?t stand a chance in Hell against them, she took off running, knowing she was too far away from the dorm and help to have any hope against surviving.

Some would think a bartender?s job is simply to make and pour drinks, clean glasses and scrub down the bar if somebody spills their beer. The best kind of bartender knows their true job is to listen to other people?s problems while they drown their sorrows away in the libations they drink. To offer sage advice to those who are willing to listen, and keep a watchful eye on those too drunk to make it home. One particular bartender took her job especially serious.

Looking up from mopping the bar, she noticed the blonde enter the bar, looking far more down then any child that age had any right being, and watched with some amusement as she made her way to the bar. The blonde sat down wearily on the stool right in front of the bartender and asked
quietly for a beer.

The bartender sized the girl up, knowing she wasn?t more than eighteen, nineteen at the most. ?I?ll need to see some I.D.? She informed the girl, cheerfully raising a dark colored eyebrow.

Blue eyes rose and stared at her, pinning the bartender with an intensity that she rarely saw in a human. ?You might as well stop looking at me like that. That look wont work with me, so you might as well put it away.? She said, in a deep timbered voice, authority reeking from the tone. ?Now, you and I both know you?re not old enough to drink alcohol, and besides you?re going to need to remain sober for what lies ahead. Why don?t you try a nice root beer, instead.? The bartender said, pouring the young woman a glass of root beer. ?There, why don?t we start you off with that. By the way, my name is Tess.? The dark skinned angel said cheerfully, a bright smile
gracing her face.

...to be continued.:-)
