I worked in the NHS. I can't think of any nurses (or nursing
ancillaries) who were actually mean but I did meet a lot who were
disinterested and who treated the patients (the official term
although the term residents was frequently used) as basically
being just pieces of meat or children to be chivyed around. Most
of the patients were long term residents (many of them lifers)
who often had learning difficulties as well as mental
difficulties and were often highly institutionalised. They're
one of the reasons I left, the attitude is very catching and hard
not to find yourself immitating. The places where I worked were
understaffed and very tense places.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm just going on my experience
and things I've heard from other people.
