Title: The I hate my stupid job songfic. (okay so this is a working title only.)

Disclaimer: As per the norm Joss owns a great deal of fun things whereas I do not. i.e. the BtVS characters. The song is Don't Speak and it belongs to No Doubt. No copyright infringement is intended and I will not benefit financially at all.

Notes: I'm writing this at work. And I hate my job. And its angst ridden. (The fic not my job.) Enjoy. Even though I don't think anyone will.


You and me

We used to be together

Every day together always

"Have you seen Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg, I mean, Jesus, you could get atoms any closer together."

"Yeah its kind of sweet isn't it? I'm totally jealous."

"Me too. I wonder how long they've been together."

"My RA, Anya, says they've been going out for five years. She says there never further than about fifteen feet from each other. She should know too, they're good friends of hers."

"That's soooo cool. I hope I fall in love like that someday."


I really feel

I'm losing my best friend 
I can't believe 
This could be the end 
"Xander all we ever do anymore is fight. God, its always 'Buffy why didn't you do this? Why didn't you do that? You're so irresponsible sometimes.' Like I have time to pick up a fucking quart of milk while I'm on patrol. Dammit! I can actually feel it dying."

"Sometimes people hit a rocky patch Buff, you guys'll get over it I'm sure."

"I don't think so Xand, I really don't think so."


It looks as though you're letting go 
And if it's real,

"Buffy we need to talk about something."

"Sure Will, what is it?"

"Buffy, it's about us."

"You want to what?"

"Take a break. We've been dating for five years. Together almost every waking moment for five years. Its time for a change."

"But--"

"I need my space Buffy."

"So that's it then? You're just going to up and leave?"

"That's pretty much what I had in mind. UC Berkley actually, they offered me a really good scholarship."

"That's really?great."

"Buffy please don't be this way."


Our memories 
They can be inviting 
"Hey Wills, while we were fight that thing tonight, I realized something really important?I love you."

"I know. I love you too Buffy."


But some are altogether 
Mighty frightening 
"Angelus is back. And he grabbed Willow."


As we die, both you and I 
With my head in my hands 
I sit and cry 
"Buff, hey Buffy what's the matter?"

"She's gone. She left me in this morning. Just walked out the door, said she'd send someone for her stuff."

"Harsh."

"Look Xander, can you just take off for awhile? I just want to cry alone for a few days. Months maybe."

"Buffy you don't understand, I just woke up one morning and felt nothing okay? I fell out of love with you. It happens all the time, just be glad it didn't happen 15 years into a 20 year marriage."


It's all ending 
I gotta stop pretending who we are...

I tossed this off because I noticed that in almost all the B/W fic I read either they live happily ever after or one of them dies. So I wondered what it would be like if instead they just broke up like ordinary people would. Now that it's finished the idea strikes me as mind bogglingly depressing and I'm never going to use this concept as the basis for a story again.

Please don't hurt me.
