If we had a stake for every person who moaned that Angel?s exit would be the end of Buffy,
well, we?d have a pretty useless pile of wood. In fact, between the Emmy-nominated ?Hush?
and the mind-bending finale, last year could not have been more impressive. Here?s the
latest:

Supernatural: The Slayer (Sarah Michelle Gellar) will gain a surrogate sister, Dawn
(Michelle Trachtenberg) with an unusual trait: Dark forces speak through the 14-year-old
girl. "She and Buffy are going to have an intense relationship," warns executive producer
Marti Noxon.

Self-aware: In trying to figure out her place in the universe, Buffy looks to slayers
past. "A lot of this year is going to be defined by Buffy?s search for her origins," says
Noxon. It?s a pursuit that could cause friction with Riley (Marc Blucas), who's redefining
his own life?without the Initiative.

Spells: Also looking to explore her abilities, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) will expand her
witchy powers with "help" from Tara (Amber Benson). For fans who?ve been questioning
Tara?s motives, Noxon promises "an answer to what her deal is."

Seriously: The relationship between Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Anya (Emma Caulfield)
deepens, and he even finds some direction! "Xander?s going to be matured and much more
central to the whole action, to the Action Jackson," says Noxon.

Scary: The villains are demigods from hell. "They?ve got a lot of power, and they are
really pissed off," says Noxon.

Spike: One to speculate on: The vamp (James Marster) will face an interesting dilemma.

Rumors are racing that Britney Spears will guest-star on Buffy this season. Will Sunnydale
ever be the same again?
