BTW You mentioned East Timor. It seems, from what I saw, like
there has been practically zero coverage on the news over here of
what happened there. Basically we heard that the Australian
forces had sent some units then zip, nada nothing. I don't think
it was news management, just cos it was on the opposite side of
the world the journos didn't find anything they found news worthy
(not when there's stuff happening in Europe to report). I only
found that there had been a shooting war going on from comments
on mailing lists and newsgroups from Aussies. I feel that I
should point out that my only experience of being shot at came
under the heading of friendly fire (or 'Blue on Blue' to use the
British army parlance) and that was one of the most unfun and
bowel wrenchingly scary things that's happened to me so far.
There's no such thing as friendly fire in my book, all fire is
bloody unfriendly.

BTW2 I found a recording of 'And the Band Played Waltzing
Matilda'. It's by the Pogues on their "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash"
album.
