OT: Buffyverse Fanclubs and the Military
>A small question, do you think you are the only soldier in the Buffyverse
fanclubs? I must say I haven't seen many others out there, certainly not in
the more Sapphic groups - a cop or two, but no soldiers. Just wondering.
Well, I know there are several military guys and girls who belong to various
Buffyverse fanclubs, including this one. However they tend to take their
camouflage and concealment lessons a little too seriously when they lurk. (I
know you are reading this, sir). It's not that military types don't like
Buffy, quite the contrary, Buffy is probably the most popular show among
Australian military personnel. They however don't get much time to write
fics. (I however make time as I use it as a form of relaxation that doesn't
require large amounts of beer). I'm not sure about the US military.
That's another thing, what the hell is with the whole 'Don't ask, Don't tell'
crap the US military runs? They don't ask if you are gay and you don't tell
them you are gay, because if you do then they will discharge you. I think
they really should get their heads out of their collective asses and wake up.
For years the Australian Defence Force has had a policy which could be
described as 'Don't care'. Race, creed, colour, religion, and sexual
preferences are not issues. It believes that sex has no place in the field or
on ships, regardless if it is heterosexual or homosexual. You have a job to
do, so before you enter the field or board the ship, you leave your sexual
preferences at home. Any one caught violating this OR discriminating against
someone on the basis of sexual preference will be punished. Basically, what
you do in your own time is your own affair. We have thousands of openly gay
members, while I am heterosexual my very best friend is a lesbian who thinks
Willow is very lunchable. I have said it before, some people take things WAY
too seriously.
End of rant.
