I guess I'm going soft.
The figure slowly walked down street. Her eyes darted wildly,
looking? seeking. It had been months since she'd eaten a
proper meal. Instead she'd simple took what the old restaurant
next to her hideaway left in the dumpster after a days business. It
wasn't much but it gave her enough nutrition to get through to
the next day.
That's all she asked for? just enough to get by. That's
all that she deserved. That's what she thought but there were
people thousands of miles away who thought she deserved the world. A
world that she would soon be reunited with. She wouldn't know
that her next decision would be the decision that would change her
life.
She stood in front of the door to apartment 155. She didn't know
why she was there but her heart told her to knock. She reached up
and knock with a shaky left hand.
An older woman about the age of her mother appeared behind the door.
"Can I help you?" It was like looking at a picture. Her
breath escaped her. She knew immediately that this was Willow's
Aunt.
"Are? are y-you Dana S-scully?" She stuttered over her
words, unused to her own voice. Months of solitude had taken its
toll on her.
"Yes? Why?" The older woman snapped at the bum standing in
front of her. She wondered how this person had even managed to get
into the building."
"W-willow said y-you could h-help m-me." Buffy shrugged off
her army jacket exposing her amputated arm. The older woman's
eyes changed from angry to sad.
"You're Buffy?"
"Y-yes. How d-did?"
"Willow told me you might come," Scully interupted.
"You're arm is damaged very badly? but I think I can
help. Come inside."
Scully took Buffy by the arm, leading her into the apartment. The
younger women stumbled, her legs giving out beneath her. She gazed
into the older woman's concerned face before letting darkness
overtake her.
+++++++++++++++++
A constant beeping brought her out of the pool of nothingness that
she'd been floating in.
"Buffy."
Her first though was of the extreme pain that came from her right
side.
"Buffy."
Why was she in pain now? The pain had ended a little over a month
ago. Sometime after she had found Willow's Aunt.
"Buffy open your eyes."
She obeyed, her eyes opening slowly to reveal a white room. The
beeping became louder, and clearer. A heart monitor? She was in a
hospital. Suddenly she remembered. Her arm? she had an arm now.
She tried to focus on her arm. Tears formed at what she saw. Tears
of joy and tears of sadness. The arm was swollen severely, her
fingers curled into a tight fist. The light glinted off the thick
brace that supported the limb.
"Buffy it'll be okay. Aunt Scully said it was normal. Buffy
listen to me."
Somewhere in the back of her shocked mind Buffy recognized the
voice. "Will?"
"That's right, baby. I'm here." She gently took
Buffy's face in her hands. "Look at me." Buffy's
eyes slowly shifted from her arm to Willow's face. The pain that
she'd felt for so long turned to gladness. Buffy was here in her
arms. She knew that she'd never let go of her Buffy ever again.
"Wha?" Willow helped Buffy lean up enough to take a sip of
water from the cup she held to her mouth.
"Your throat will be sore for a few days from the tube that was
helping you breathe during surgery."
"I-Is K?" She knew she didn't deserve to know but her
heart was aching. She needed to know, needed to see her daughter.
"She's in the waiting room with Xander." Willow watched
Buffy carefully. She needed to know what Buffy's intentions
were. She refused to let Kat get close to her mom if she was just
going to abandon her again. "She's changed a lot since you
left."
"D-does s-she hate me f-for leaving?"
"She never hated you. She didn't know where you were coming
from but? she does now."
"Wha? what do you mean? She's?"
"A Slayer. She was called a month ago."
"Oh God." Buffy tore her gaze from Willow's face.
"I? "
"She's going to need your help. She's lost and confused
and she's so young Buffy. Younger than you were."
Buffy smiled a sarcastic smile. "I'm not going to be much
help." She was drawn back to her arm. The pain she felt from
the limb was minimal compared to the pain that she felt in her
heart. Her innocent daughter was doomed to the same life that she
had. But she ran away from her life. No. She wouldn't do that
to
Kat. "But I'll try that is if she wants my help."
"Good." Willow stroked a fallen bang out of Buffy's
face. "Get some sleep now. I'll see you in the
morning." She gently kissed her forehead.
Buffy watched the door shut behind Willow. She suddenly felt
extremely exhausted. Slowly she drifted into a deep sleep. Tomorrow
would be a day for adjusting and healing past wounds. Tomorrow would
bring a brand new start.
