"So you really did love OZ." Xander asked.

Willow smiled at the memory of her early days with Oz. He had been 
her first great love. A love that she thought would last a lifetime. 
It didn't matter that he was a werewolf or that she was the class 
nerd. It didn't matter that they risked their lives on a daily basis. 
It didn't matter that they were just kids trying to live in a world 
that scared them to death. They were in love. That was all that 
mattered.

"Yes I did and Buffy really did love Angel."

"Then what happened?" Kendra smiled.

Willow smiled sadly, "I don't know. Maybe life. Maybe fate. Maybe 
hormones. Some things just happen. There is no reason. Some things 
just are."

"Like you and Xander kissing?"

"Yes. It was a mistake. We both knew it at the time. It just 
happened. A lifetime of me having a crush on him finally got the 
better of me. It cost Xander, Cordelia and it but my relationship 
with Oz on borrowed time."

"What about Buffy and Angel?" Cordelia asked.

Willow thought about Buffy and Angel.....and Angelus. A night that 
was supposed to be the happiest night of their lives, the night they 
had first made love, turned into the night that destroyed their 
innocence. All of their innocence.

"Their relationship was always on borrowed time. They just didn't 
know it until it was too late. They always thought they were star-
crossed lovers, but their star was dying from the minute it was born. 
They were doomed from the start."

"Because Buffy was the slayer?" Xander asked.

"No, because their love was based on a lie." 

"A lie?" Jane, Willow's granddaughter asked.

"Yes. On Angel's soul."

"His soul was a lie?"

Willow frowned and remembered the day their world fell apart. It was 
the darkest day of their lives. It was the day Angelus did something, 
Angel could never take back.

"Not his lie but the lie of someone else. And that lie cost us a 
valued friend......."
