The Blue Dragon
Dragon Makers
Buffy entered the Bronze and began looking around. Then it occurred to her.
She had no idea who she was looking for. She had only seen the woman in her
black ninja outfit. Her head covered and only her blue in blue glowing eyes
showing. Buffy released she didn't even know what color hair the woman had.
Buffy tried to run the few facts she had through her head. The woman was a
little smaller than she was but not by much. Scales in spots on her chest,
Blue glowing eyes, strange blinking strobe light movement, but yet still a
woman. A very attractive woman. Then images of that same woman holding a
sword to her neck while undoing her shirt. "I am going to kill Faith," Buffy
suddenly said to herself as images that had nothing to do with memories
flooded her mind and the words, 'Hungry and horny' popped into her brain.
"Well then I am glad I am not Faith." Said a very pretty blond standing in
front of her. The woman looked to be a few years older than herself but with
demons that meant nothing.
"You're the dragon." Buffy said in a huffy tone that did not match her inner
voices. She was having trouble getting her thoughts under control. She had
this reaction one other time in her life and that had been the night she met
Angel for the first time. 'Not good', and 'maybe gay,' were added to the
voices in her brain. The one she really wanted to listen to was screaming
"RUN"
"Kelly, my name is Kelly, Slayer." The woman said amused.
"Fine Kelly and Buffy. Now can we get this over with." Buffy said trying to
sound bored.
"In a hurry?" The woman asked smiling broadly.
"There is usually a table at the back." Buffy said leading the way through
the crowd. They found an empty spot in the back of the club but because the
music was so loud they had to sit a little too close for Buffy's comfort.
And from the smirk on the woman's face Buffy guessed the demon knew it too.
Buffy had a keen sense of smell and could actually smell other people's
arousal at times. Any doubts that she might be gay or at least bi were being
tossed out the door. Sitting there at the table next to this woman she knew
she wanted her. 'What is it with me and souled demons.' Buffy wondered. Then
her eyes got big and Buffy asked hurriedly, "You have a soul?" She already
knew the answer of course, she didn't know how but she knew the answer.
"Yes, you seem a little shocked by that?" Kelly said still smiling.
"Most demon don't have souls." Buffy said feeling stupid and totally out of
control. What the hell was going on? One minute I am Slayer Buffy, the next
I am slut Buffy and now I am little girl Buffy. Zero to sixty and back to
zero without even starting the engine. She really wished she had one of her
friends with her. She had never felt this out of control in her life.
"I am not 'most demons'. I'm not actually sure I am a demon. I'm not human
but I don't think of myself as a demon either. Not hell spawn anyway." The
woman explained behind her dark glasses.
"Whatever." Buffy said deciding to stick to bitch mode. She needed to get a
hold of herself and get back in control.
"Fine then how about a treaty?"
"Fine what are your terms?"
"I eat Vampires, stake my dinner when I am through, no mess no fuss. Less
Vampires for you to clean up."
"Fine, I don't do your clean up. I don't want to know you're in town. And if
I find out you even looked at Angel or anyone with a soul I become a dragon
slayer. Clear."
"Fine, though I don't really know this Angel." The dragon woman said.
Buffy clicked on the fact and focused. "Let me see your left shoulder."
"Sure why?" Kelly said a little puzzled by the slayer's change. Buffy
grabbed the woman and roughly pushed her black shirt out of the way to look
at the spot were she had shoved a stake in. To her surprise the woman's skin
was soft and scaleless. Buffy pulled the woman's shirt open wide and looked
at her bra-less breast in awe. Not because she found them beautiful, which
she did, but because it was not the same as the one she had shoved a stake
in a few weeks earlier. This was not the same person who attacked Angel.
"Interesting mating ritual." Kelly said feeling awkward at having someone
doing this in the middle of a bar. The stares were actually bothering her.
"You don't have scales. No scales."
"No, only the very young or very old or the ill have them in this reality.
And I will gladly let you check for all the scales you want only do we have
to do it here? You are drawing a lot of attention." Kelly said a little
alarmed.
Buffy looked around at several other people she knew from school staring at
them and said, "Bite me."
"No thank you, You have a soul." Kelly answered while straightening her
shirt.
"Come on." Buffy said grabbing the woman's hand and pulling her out of the
Bronze. As they left Buffy heard Harmony telling her sheep, "See I always
said Buffy Summers was a dyke besides just being strange."
Buffy just cursed under her breath and pulled the woman out of the bar and
up the street. Then she pulled her into Faith's room at the trash motel. For
once Buffy was glad Faith was out on one of her walkabouts. Buffy stopped at
the office glared at Ed the manager. He wordlessly handed her a key and
returned to WWF Wrestling. This was not one of her well thought out plans.
She opened Faith's room, praying Faith was not inside humping a motorcycle
gang or a fleet of truck drivers. She pushed Kelly inside, flipped on a
light and ordered, "Get undressed."
"What was that comment about dinner and a movie?" Kelly said but she began
pulling off her black clothes. When in Rome... was her only thought while
she slowly undressed. She was really enjoying this weird event.
"Yeah well I took you off my Christmas card list already." Buffy stated. She
was agitated and not just because of that little voice in her head that was
telling her that being gay was ok. She would have to deal with that voice
later. No the voice she was listening to was her slayer voice. It was
saying, "You missed something Buffy."
Kelly laid her clothes on the bed. And held out her arms and body for
inspection. She had no idea what was going on, but she thought she might as
well have a little fun. She was oddly aroused by Buffy. Something that
didn't happen that often to her.
Buffy moved to the woman and began to touch her arms and back carefully. "No
scales." The slayer repeated.
"Yes well I think we discussed this back at the Bronze." Kelly said a little
disappointed that the slayer was really only looking for scales. Somehow she
had hoped for more.
"When you unbuttoned my shirt the first night we met, you weren't just
looking for a heart beat were you?" Buffy asked putting piece together.
Kelly frowned sadly. "No"
"So there is another one like you loose in Sunnydale. Very old, very young
or very ill", Buffy realized.
"Young and probably ill if you were serious about your boyfriend being
bitten. Though I am surprised he was not poisoned or turned to stone."
Boyfriend, Kelly repeated to herself. She had forgotten that part of the
Slayers story. The dragon was actually very disappointed the slayer was all
business.
"He isn't healing well." Buffy said worried about Angel again.
"But he is healing?"
"Seems to be. He is still weak and the marks are not closing up the way they
should."
"I should look at him. You have my word I will not try and harm him." Kelly
said as she reached down to put on her clothes.
Buffy replied "Thanks." Then she turned around to let the woman get dressed.
She felt embarrassed suddenly and the feeling of being out of control had
returned. She was definitely going to have to have a long talk with herself
later.
"This other dragon, you are looking for her right?" Buffy asked staring at
the motel rules on the back of the door.
"Yes. I need to bring her back home. She was stolen from us when she was
young. She doesn't understand what she is yet." Kelly said staring at the
slayers' body, admiring her frame. She wondered what was wrong with her.
Normally she did not talk to humans. Or find them attractive. She has a
boyfriend Kelly kept telling herself.
As if on cue, Faith kicked open the door knocking Buffy back into Kelly and
landing them both in a heap on the bed.
"Hi ya B. Cute chick." Faith slurred clearly drunk.
"Cute truck driver, F" Buffy said never missing a beat as she rolled off her
dragon. The large man behind Faith was clearly enjoying the view.
Kelly flipped off the bed in a graceful move and jumped into the bathroom to
finish dressing. Wondering just how these things happen.
"Demon?" Faith asked as Buffy pointed her at the bed. Faith was staggering
heavily.
"Friend." Buffy replied and shoved Faith on the bed. The fact that Faith was
feeling her up the whole time she fell into bed didn't help matters. Kelly
finished dressing and re-entered the room not really sure why she was
feeling embarrassed like she had been caught doing something naughty nor why
she was still hanging around. Humans equaled trouble.
Buffy had turned off her emotions. She couldn't process them. Instead she
pulled Faith's hands free of her breast. Flipped the drunken slayer over
pulled off her boots. Tossed a blanket on top of her. Grabbed the truck
driver tossed him out the door, and said, "Thanks for bringing her home."
This was not the first time Buffy had tucked Faith in bed.
"See I knew you wanted me all for yourself." Faith slurred while pulling her
shirt off and then tossing the blanket to the side. Buffy was somewhat
angered by this gesture. She didn't want Kelly seeing her fight Faith's
advances off. Something she was doing a lot lately. Somehow suddenly it
mattered to her a great deal what this total stranger thought.
"Faith you are just not my type get over it." Buffy said tossing the blanket
back on the slayer. Kelly stood by the door watching. There was something
she didn't like about the other girl. Something out of place. She turned and
started reading the motel rules on the door. Anything that would keep her
from ripping the brunette's head off. She was jealous as hell and she didn't
even know Buffy. Not really.
"Oh sure you fuck demons but someone like me is beneath you I get it." Faith
said tossing the blanket off the bed and grabbing Buffy around the waist.
"Faith you're drunk. Go to sleep." Buffy said tossing Faith back in the Bed
and moving away from her. She hated dealing with Faith when she was drunk.
Faith was all hands and all talk. Buffy figured Faith was also willing to
add all action to the list only she never wanted to go there. At least not
with Faith. She had one bad boy in her life; she didn't need a bad girl to
round off her experiences.
(((((((*****))))))
Buffy managed to get Faith in bed and her and Kelly out the door. She tucked
the room key in her pants. She knew she would need to come by the next day
and check on Faith again. In a way she was Faith's only family. It was a job
she excepted at face value.
"Sorry about that, I didn't think she would be back in town yet." Buffy said
to Kelly as they moved toward Angels' mansion.
"Are you...? Well...never mind." Kelly was still feeling jealous and aroused
and plain out of control. She had no idea what the hell was wrong with her.
"We are just friends." Buffy answered. Smiling at the look her answer put on
her new friends face. She was going to have to do a lot of thinking later.
"How did you know what I was going to ask?" Kelly said staring at the
slayer.
"You're not the first one to ask. Even my friend, Willow, asked after seeing
Faith in one of her moods." Buffy explained. It was true, every one of her
friends save Giles, who would never ask her something like that, and Xander
had asked her if something was going on between them. Even her mother asked
in a non-direct way. Even Kelm had asked her.
"She is a little...."
"Hands on... Yeah that's my Faith. Want Take Have I believe is her
philosophy. Mostly she does it for the shock factor."
"So she doesn't mean it?"
"Oh she means it. It's just... Faith doesn't think things through. She fucks
first ask for contraceptives later. She is so desperate to be loved, she
forgets she needs to find out what love is first."
"So you like her?"
"She is a friend. That's all."
"No. There has to be more. You don't treat friends like that, you save that
kind of treatment for family." Kelly reasoned.
"I guess we are kind of family. We have a connection. I just don't think it
needs to be anything more. It wouldn't be smart. And I like her, I just
don't like her that way."
"So is it all girls or just her you feel that way about?" Kelly asked
excitedly.
"Angel's house is just around the corner." Buffy replied not wanting to
answer the question. Her mind was working over time.
(((((((((******)))))))
They had found Angel lying in bed asleep. He still didn't look great. Buffy
had woken him up and introduced Kelly. It was clear they hated each other
from Hello.
"You're lucky. She didn't drain very much blood." Kelly said examining the
still healing wound on Angel's neck.
"Buffy how do you know you can trust her?" Angel replied pulling away from
the girl.
"I don't Angel now be a good vampire and let her look." Buffy replied to her
stubborn boyfriend.
"We are going to have to clean your wounds again to get the poison out. You
will heal up either way but cleaning out the poison will make sure you are
ok and help you heal faster. You'll need blood to drink afterward. Plus I am
not good at stuff like this; someone who can do the cutting would be a
better choice. I will help but I don't think either of us would feel
comfortable with me cutting on you. And it will hurt." Kelly said touching
the wound and letting her glowing eyes follow the puncture marks.
"I take it the sooner the better?" Buffy asked talking out her cell phone.
"Buffy I don't trust her." Angel whined. He knew the woman was probably
right. He had already guessed the wound was poisoned. Still he didn't like
her. He didn't like the way Buffy was looking at her. Angel was no fool.
Even when he was Angelus, he had known Buffy found both sexes attractive. He
had always thought he would lose her to Willow though. He liked Willow, and
somehow he knew she would be good for Buffy. But this woman, this dragon, he
didn't like, his gut told him she was going to be trouble.
"Giles, I am at Angel's. Kelly has looked at his neck and says that Angel
needs to have the poison cut out. I need Dr. Giles." Giles stitched her up
all the time. Only major wounds got her sent to the hospital everything else
Giles took care of.
"Kelly?" Giles asked puzzled.
"My Dragon. Look, just bring Dr Giles' medical kit and Willow if she is
there and get over here. Please for me." Buffy begged in her little girl
voice that always got to him.
(((((((((*********))))))
An hour later, Giles, Xander, Oz and Willow were at Angel's mansion. Buffy
had to laugh at how doctor Willow was boiling Giles' knife. Of all her
friends Willow was the one who just asked what needed to be done and did it.
After a little set up. Giles and Kelly stood over Angel's neck. Willow had
fitted a bright light for them to see the wound with.
"The poison is in this area, it appears pink with blue spots to me, but I
doubt you can see more then a slight discoloration." Kelly explained
pointing out the area below the wound on Angel's neck.
"Yes I see the discoloration." Giles replied.
"Well you need to cut a deep cut along the line of discoloration. Then pour
in some peroxide and let it bubble some of it out. You will need to make it
bleed. It will hurt him but he will be able to heal up later on. I can see
the poison so I can tell you if you need to cut deeper.
"Just get on with it Giles." Angel said bravely.
Giles cut about a half-inch deep laceration into the discolored area and
moved the knife up to the original bite marks. The blood from the wound was
surprisingly pussy. If Angel had been human the wound would have bleed badly
but being without heartbeat they had to force the wound to bleed. Giles
milked the wound until red blood came out. Angel gritted his teeth trying to
be the brave stoic guy.
"I think you've got it all. Sir I hope you feel better soon." Kelly said
sincerely. "My kind normally do not eat anything with a soul. It was an
honest mistake, I hope you can forgive us for making it."
"I thought you said you didn't do it." Angel growled sitting up as Giles
slapped on a bandage.
"I personally have not met you until tonight. But it was one of my kind that
did this. We take responsibility for our own." Kelly said in honesty. A more
experienced Dragon would have sensed his soul no matter how shallowly it was
connected to his body.
"But one of your kind did this?" Giles asked.
"Yes, a young girl. She was stolen from our tribe about 14 years ago. She
was only a small child. There is no way she would know what she really is.
Who she is. Young Dragons have scales. They are normally pure gold. In olden
times we were sought out because of our gold. This dragon girl is a blue
dragon. The rarest of the rare. Her scales are pure blue gold. She would be
worth a fortune to the right people. About a year ago some of our people,
our kind, managed to trace a large amount of blue gold to the city of
Sunnydale. They sent me here to find her."
"That is awful." Willow said in disbelief.
"That would explain the scale you found." Xander said thinking of the scale
Buffy had brought back.
"You found a scale?" Kelly said excited.
"Yes, but it's at the library." Buffy explained.
"Would you allow me to view it?" Kelly asked.
"Come by the school tomorrow and I will let you see it. Then maybe we can
discuss your problem in more depth. Say around 4 PM." Giles said
"That would be lovely." Kelly replied fully aware that she was being asked
to leave. They wanted to discuss her presence without her there. It wasn't
the first time humans had thrown her out. "I will see you tomorrow." Kelly
said turning to leave.
"Thanks" Buffy said giving Angel dirty looks.
"Ah yes thanks for your help." Angel replied.
After Kelly was gone and Xander and Angel both had checked that she was
gone. Giles said to the group. "She is not telling us everything."
"Yeah, you think!" Buffy answered sarcastically. "Giles you kicked her out
of here like an old shoe. What do you expect from her." Buffy added
defending the woman that had taken her heart. Buffy wasn't sure when this
last part happened but it had.
"She is a demon Buffy." Giles said angrily. Something was bothering him as
well. Something he just didn't like. A sense that something terrible had
just happened and he didn't understand it.
"I think Buffy is right. She must be afraid to trust us. Greed is always a
good motive. I think we should hear her out first." Willow said putting her
arm around Buffy.
"She is a demon. Demons are bad. Slayer kill demons. " Xander said staring
at Angel.
"Thank you doctor Seuss. Look my gut says trust her. I don't think these
dragons are out to hurt anyone. At least not yet."
"But you think she is holding something back too?" Giles asked.
"Yes, I think we need more information." Buffy said frankly.
((((((((((((**********))))))))))))))
School was boring for the most part. She and Cordelia had played a round of
drive the history teacher crazy. That was always fun. They would both
interrupt his lectures asking silly question that drove him crazy. They both
liked to watch the fire and smoke pouring out of his ears. And since they
sat on opposite sides of the room and pretended not to be friends it made
him much, much crazier. It was bad but very fun.
Outside of that Buffy had not been able to get her mind off of Kelly. Even
when she had brought Faith her hangover cure, apple juice and a peanut
butter sandwich, she had not stopped thinking bad naughty thoughts about the
blond woman. She wished she could talk to someone about it, only who? Her
friends might take the news and freak. And Buffy really needed her friends.
Willow was so not ready for gay talks. She was still spazing over Vamp
Willow. Kinda gay she was not ready for. Buffy was just glad she had shut
Angel up before he said anything else to drive her friend nuts.
And then there was Xander. He was so not over Cordelia. And Xander was so
homophobic it was not funny. Larry walked into a room and Xander practically
ran out of the room screaming. Giles talked about tea. That was a personal
talk for Giles. Faith had nearly given him a heart attack when she made one
of her grunt and gesture moves in the library. It was at times like this she
wished Ms. Calendar was still alive. Ms. Calendar was hip with these kinds
of talks. Before she and Ms. Calendar had gone through the bad parts over
Angel they had once talked about sexuality. And that too was another one of
the problems Buffy really was having now.
This was not the first time she had feelings like this about another woman.
Only she also had feelings for guys too. So she was just a little confused
by it all. Even if she could call herself gay, it just didn't cover her
feelings. And bi seemed an even stranger word to her. Outside of Angel she
had kissed only two other people, her boyfriend Jeffery at Hemsley and
Amanda Hunter. Oddly the only other person she ever wanted to kiss was
Willow. Only she liked Willow too much as a friend to risk their friendship.
Lost in thought Buffy was brought out of back to the present by Kelm. "Buffy
are you ok?" Kelm asked just above a whisper.
"Fine, you ok?" Buffy said focusing on her friend.
"I was worried about you but Cordelia said you could take care of yourself.
And I saw you at Cordelia's house later too."
"I wanted to make sure you and she made it home ok. Come on I will walk you
to class. It's that time of day again. Got to love microwave cleaning hour."
Buffy laughed.
"I'll do it. I don't mind." Kelm offered.
"How about we do it together. Then I can read to you." Buffy offered.
"Ok as long as Ms. Williams doesn't wig over it."
"She wigged on you again?"
"I asked her to read to me yesterday and she got really mad. She even yelled
and everything. She really hates me." Kelm said sadly.
"I know and I am sorry. Hey I heard her talking yesterday and she was trying
to get you mainstreamed into other classes. Maybe you can spend less time in
her class. Which was probably her idea but hey it will work for you too."
Buffy said cheerfully. She hated the way Ms. Williams treated Kelm.
"Maybe. She said I could maybe take gym with you next semester again. If you
don't mind?" Kelm asked.
"Gym would be great. You liked it this semester didn't you?" Buffy replied.
Ms. Williams had stuck Kelm in her gym class a week after she first read to
Kelm.
"I loved it. Only...."
"Only... What."
"She wants me to take art and music classes. And maybe film studies and home
ec." Kelm said shyly.
"And you are worried? Don't be. You will do fine. And if you don't you can
always go back to spending time with Ms. Williams." Buffy said trying to
help her friend.
"When you put it that way." They walked on quietly for a minute the Kelm
doubled over grabbing her stomach.
"You ok?" Buffy asked again.
"Just my ulcers. It's nothing." Kelm said trying to hide her pain. "I'll
catch up with you." Kelm said turning around and heading for the bathroom.
Buffy followed. Kelm went into one of the stalls and started throwing up
blood. Even from outside the stall Buffy could smell the blood.
