Trinity's Child (part 2)

Warrior of light, guardian in white, witch of flame, will be bond. And
then the bond will be formed with blood. Chronicles of Golgotha.

"Then sometimes you have a legacy. A legacy is kind of like someone
coming to their destiny and leaving you rough directions on how to finish the
rest of the journey. It influences people that come after you." David
McWray.

Buffy awoke just after dawn to the sound of hundreds of parakeets and
cockatoos tweeting and singing as they fed on the lawns and in the trees that
surrounded the house. When she first heard the morning sounds of these
beautiful birds, Buffy had been enchanted by the beauty of it. As the years
went by, she grew to view their noisy morning ritual as something of a pain.
This attitude was shared by the local residents and was, she imagined, a sure
sign that she had come to regard here as home.
There were times that she missed Sunnydale, but those times grew less
and less as the years past. Everything that was important to her life was
here. Willow, Xander, Jenny, Giles, her Mom, they all combined to make any
place a home. She still visited Sunnydale at least 3 times a year. She had
to, really, because Sunnydale had a Hellmouth (although dormant for how long
no one knew) and that's where the Slayers Council had set up it's
headquarters.
She rolled over and looked out of her window which overlooked Jervis
Bay. The sun had crept over the calm waters of the bay and was headed into a
cloudless sky. On the water a single warship swung at anchor as a lone
fishing trawler returned to port with its nightly catch. The entire scene was
framed by the morning light of the rising sun. In the background, Buffy heard
the College clocktower strike 6. The peace and beauty of it made her heart
sing.
The sound of the telephone snapped her out of her dreamy state.
Groaning, she reached over and answered it.
"Hello?" Buffy asked.
"Encrypt on my mark. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. Mark." the voice on
the other end said. Buffy inserted her electronic key and pressed the encrypt
button on her Speakeasy which was connected to the phone. She listened as the
unit chirped and beeped until she heard the tone telling her the line was
secure. The need for encryption told Buffy that this would be a work call.
Something that she really didn't want to face right now.
"Miss Summers? It's Sub Lieutenant Mark Kline, Duty Operations
Officer." he said.
"Hey Mark. What's up?" she said to the young man.
"There's a mission that we need you to lead."
"OK, give us the details." Buffy sighed.
"We need you to lead team 2 for a mission to take out a new nest of
vampires under Rookwood Cemetery. Indications are that there are about a
dozen vampires and a possibility of an unknown number of demons in the same
area. Captain Miller was supposed to take charge of team 2 but he has been
diagnosed with mumps. All the other team leaders won't get back until
Friday." Mark reminded her.
Buffy sighed. It was her idea that teams 1 and 4 do check up training
with their British and American counterparts. Team 3 was in Melbourne dealing
with a possible vampire related series of disappearances there. That left
team 2 to deal with the situation. Regardless of the fact that Captain Miller
was sick, the possibility of demons and vampires together meant that Buffy
would have wanted to take charge of this one herself.
"Alright then. Send a helo down to pick us up at 10. Have the team
ready at Watson and we'll head out around noon. I'll bring Xander along, we
can stay overnight and pick up my parents and Willow from the airport
tomorrow." she told him.
"No worries then. The chopper can pick you guys from the sports oval
at 10. See ya." said Mark and hung up. With a big moan, Buffy dragged herself
out of bed and padded to Xander's room.
There was only one reason that Xander slept in a separate room from
Buffy and Willow, who were otherwise keen for him to sleep in their bed. The
sad fact of the matter was that Xander snored. Not just mere mortal snoring.
No. Xander sounded like a blender in a bucket of nails. One day, Buffy
thought to herself, Willow will find a spell that will cure him of his
snoring and the three of them could snuggle together every night and still
get some sleep afterwards.
Buffy opened the door to Xander's room and looked inside. Xander
wasn't snoring, but was rather laying on his back in blissful sleep. The
reason for such a blissful look was obvious. It never fail to amaze Buffy how
parts of Xander could wake up before he did, and by the looks of it he was
having a very nice dream.
She admired him for a moment, and then licked her lips and decided
that she would wake him in the nicest way possible.
