Trinity's Child 8/?
Xander tried to sleep. Tomorrow he was flying out to England to
inspect the British team and then fly to Sunnydale to meet the Slayers
Council. He would be gone two, maybe three months and that fact didn't please
him one bit. But he was an adult now, with adult responsibilities.
His life revolved around three women; Buffy, Willow, and Jenny. He
didn't resent that, quite the contrary, he loved it. He tried to take as much
of the burden of their lives as possible. He wasn't the strongest or greatest
fighter around. Nor was he a great magician. But what he was good at was
administration, and so tried to do as much of the paperwork and meetings and
such as possible. It was never pleasant, but Xander would rather that he do
it than Buffy and Willow endure it.
He looked at Willow who lay snuggled close to him. Her long red hair
spilling across his bare chest and her pale skin shining in the moon light.
She looked peaceful and contented. She looked happy in her sleep. Xander
lived to make her and Buffy happy.
But something was coming that would upset that happiness. They could
all feel it. It was for this reason that Xander was particularly unhappy at
being gone from here for so long. He wanted to be here if and when the big
bad went down. But he had other responsibilities which were not so easily put
off.
Inwardly, Xander sighed. He looked out the window and into the stars
that held their fate.
"You sure that you'll be OK?" Willow asked Xander at the airport.
"I'm sure Will. If anything happens I can be home in less than a day."
he said.
"I don't mean that. I mean about going back to England and Sunnydale."
"Will, the Watchers Council hasn't tried anything for 17 years and the
Hellmouth isn't active." Xander said, trying to calm Willow's fears.
"Are you going to see your parents?" she asked. Xander became a little
distant.
"I guess I should do the dutiful son thing. Not that they were ever
dutiful parents. But I suppose that putting flowers on their graves would be
the right thing to do." Xander's parents had died 13 years ago in a car crash
caused by his father being drunk behind the wheel. Xander's relationship with
his parents was an unhappy one. Especially since there was now no chance of
reconciling.
The fight was announced and they headed to the departure gate. Willow
gently kissed Xander.
"Keep warm and don't forget to call when you get there." she told him.
"I will." he looked into her sad eyes. "I love you Willow."
"I love you too." she said and watched him turn for the gate. He
stopped and turned back to Willow.
"Oh, by the way." he said and raced over to Willow. He kissed her
deeply and passionately. Willow felt her knees go weak and her own passion
surge. He broke off the kiss and looked at her with a goofy grin.
"Pass that onto Buffy for me will ya?" he asked Willow. She giggled.
"Get going you dag. And don't forget to call." she said smiling.
"Your wish is my command." Xander said giving an elaborate bow before
hurrying off to the plane. He still had that ability for the child within to
make Willow laugh. Willow headed off to the city to shop before she and Buffy
saw Jenny and Paul off on their plane to Singapore.

Xander walked down the cold night streets of London. He had been here
for a week and things were going well. The new British team was excellent and
that meant that Xander would only need another two or three weeks here before
going to Sunnydale and then home.
He wasn't really sure why he was walking down through the docklands
with their large warehouses. Force of habit, he guessed. As he walked, his
senses became razor sharp and he became on edge. Something was wrong.
Something was out there. Something...
A young girls scream ripped the night. It came from one of the
warehouses. Drawing his gun, Xander raced to the door only to find it locked.
A couple of good kicks sent the door flying. He entered the warehouse.
Another scream came from above him, and Xander raced up the stairs.
When he got to the top of the stairs, Xander saw what was happening. A very
large vampire was advancing on a young girl who cowered in the corner of the
hallway. She saw Xander.
"Help me!" she screamed. The vampire turned to she who she was
screaming at. Xander didn't hesitate. His gun spoke twice and in moments the
vamp was smoke and ash. Xander went over to the girl who was sobbing.
"It's OK. He's gone now. He won't hurt you any more." Xander reassured
her. She latched onto Xander and cried her eyes out onto his chest. All
Xander could do was hold her and make reassuring sounds. Eventually she was
able to speak.
"What happened?" Xander asked.
"I... I wasn't feeling well and my Watcher sent me here and then there
was this vampire and I couldn't fight it because my powers had gone and
then..." wide eyed Xander interrupted her.
"Your Watcher? You're a Slayer?" The girl nodded.
"I am Tina, the Vampire Slayer." Xander was stunned. His thoughts
raced at a million miles an hour. He had one question.
"How old are you?"
"18. I just turned 18." she told him. Everything clicked. The
Cruciamentum. He held onto her and started walking to the stairs.
"You'll be OK. I get you somewhere safe." Xander reassured her. A
voice from the stairs called to them.
"She isn't going anywhere with you." a man said as he walked up the
stairs.
"Let me guess. You're from the Watchers Council, here to administer
that stupid Cruciamentum test." Xander said with some anger.
"She isn't to know of the test." the man said.
"What? Are you afraid that if she found out that, when she turns 18
the Watchers Council takes her powers away, locks her up with a vampire and
sees if she survives, that she would tell you to stick the test where the sun
don't shine? Just like Buffy did?" Xander asked.
"What test? Who's Buffy?" Tina asked. Xander quickly explained about
the test, about Buffy and the Slayers Council. The man from the Watchers
Council was outraged.
"You interfere where you don't belong. You spread your faulty ideals
and try to corrupt her mind against us. You can't do this."
"Why not? All I'm telling her is the truth. What's so bad about the
truth? The truth shall set you free." Xander said.
"Enough of this! The Slayer comes with me!" the Watcher demanded.
"No! Tina is a human capable of deciding on her own." Xander stood
firm in front of the Watcher. Not taking his eyes off the Watcher Xander
spoke to Tina.
"Your call. Your choice."
Tina thought for a moment.
"They tried to kill me. They lied to me and hurt me. I want nothing to
do with the Watchers Council." she said. Xander nodded.
"OK. She has made her decision. Let's go." Xander and Tina started to
head for the stairs but the Watcher tried to grab Tina. He found himself
looking down the barrel of Xander's pistol.
"Touch her and die." Xander said evenly. Tina and Xander walked down
the stairs under the gaze of the Watcher.
"The Watchers Council will hear of this. And they will not hesitate to
act." The Watcher told them. Xander stopped just before the door and looked
up at the Watcher.
"If the Watchers Council tries anything, they will regret the day they
were born." Xander told the onlooking Watcher. Together, Tina and Xander
walked into the cold London night.
