Trinity's Child 13/?

Chaos reigned. All round the base people rushed to the wreckage of
Trinity House. In the distance the sound of sirens could be heard. One of the
first people on the scene was Xander's friend, Billy.
"Fucking hell! You guys all right?" Billy said as he helped Xander up
off Willow. Xander's ears rang and it took a few moments to regain his
senses. Xander helped Willow up and quickly checked her out, finding no
obvious injury. He then looked out on the water.
"There! Those guys in that boat! They launched some kind of rocket!"
Xander yelled and pointed to two men who were speeding rapidly away. Billy
swore again.
The base fire fighters and medics arrived on the scene. A couple of
medics were trying to help Buffy as she knelt on the front lawn of the
wrecked and burning house. She shrugged them off as a heart breaking wail
erupted from her. Another group were working on an unmoving Giles. From the
look on their faces and desperate way they worked it looked like Giles was in
serious trouble.
White hot anger burned through Xander. Animal like fury boiled in his
veins. Quickly it was replaced by cold, hard determination. A sense of calm
came over Xander as vengeance and death became burned into his body. Someone
had attacked his family. Someone would pay. He looked at Billy with cold hard
eyes.
"I want those two guys in the boat. Now!" said venomously and with
such authority that Billy snapped to attention like a young sailor before the
Admiral.
"Aye, aye. Sir." Billy replied quickly snapping off a salute and
racing away to the Communications Centre. Billy knew that none of the base
work boats would be able to catch the boat with the two attackers. But there
was other ways to catch them and things that needed doing.
Xander watched the departing Billy. Then, with a weeping Willow held
closely, the two of them went over to Buffy.

Air Chief Marshal Robert Brown had been Chief of the Australian
Defence Force (CDF) for just over six months. In that time his communication
watch officer had never burst into his office like this before.
"Sir! Flash traffic from Creswell. They report a rocket attack on
Trinity House by two unknown men in a high speed boat. The base has gone to
weathercock red and are requesting assistance." the young officer reported.
The CDF was stunned for a moment. Trinity House was the home of the
Slayer. Someone had attacked the Slayer. It could also be an attack on the
defence force. As the man responsible for the nations defence he had to
assume the worst.
"Maximum alert, all bases. All army units stand to and I want two
companies of troops sent to Creswell. I want maximum security around the
Slayer and her companions. Get word out to President Cosgrove, the Slayers
Council and foreign Anti-Vampire units of the attack. Just in case this is
the start of something bigger, I want the Air Force scrambled and the fleet
crash sailed. What's the nearest naval unit to Jervis Bay?" the CDF asked.
"The SYDNEY is doing trials off Jervis Bay Gunnery Range." the watch
officer replied.
"Send a signal off to the SYDNEY."

Captain Vanessa Van Zulen sat on the bridge of her ship, the SYDNEY.
The latest in a long and distinguished line of ships to bear the name, it was
the pinnacle of an outstanding career to command her. She was the latest and
most powerful warship ever to enter service. The SYDNEY and her American
sister ship MISSOURI had fought in the Taiwan Strait, decimating the Chinese
fleet.
Battle saw the last thing on Captain Van Zulen's mind as she did her
crossword puzzle while keeping an ear out on the Officer of the Watch go
through his paces.
"Captain, Ma'am. COMMCEN." the Captain heard on the speaker next to
her. Reluctantly, she put down the crossword and answered.
"Captain."
"Ma'am, Flash traffic from CDF. Commanding Officer's eyes only." the
signalman reported. Flash from CDF, not good.
"On my way." the Captain said as she left the bridge for the COMMCEN.
A few moments later, she returned to the bridge, her face a mask of
seriousness.
"Officer of the Watch, bring the ship to action stations. Get the helo
up and stand by to conduct a hostile boarding." she ordered.
"Hands to action stations, hands to action stations, hands to action
stations. Assume damage control state One condition Zulu. Helicopter to Alert
5, stand by to conduct hostile boarding." ordered the Officer of the Watch as
the alarm went throughout the ship. Everywhere sailors donned protective gear
and took up their stations.
"Command, Surface."
"Captain."
"Ma'am. New radar contact one seven, bearing three one two, range six
miles, speed 34 knots, heading zero nine eight." the surface radar operator
reported to the Captain.
"Very good. Designate contact as hostile. Recommended intercept course
at max speed?" she asked. The Officer of the Watch quickly did the
calculations.
"At 75 knots, course three five zero. Time to intercept 4 minutes."
he reported.
"Port 5, steer three five zero, full ahead both engines." the Captain
ordered. The SYDNEY closed in.
"Boarding party ready in sea boat. Helicopter ready for launch." a
sailor reported.
"Away sea boat. Launch helo." the Captain ordered. The boarding party
in the sea boat was lowered and the helicopter lifted of the flight deck. The
boarding party would catch the boat and board it while the helicopter covered
them with its 30 millimetre chaingun.

Trent looked back and saw the on coming boarding party. He yelled at
his companion.
"Take them out!"
The other man loaded the rocket launcher and aimed it at the
approaching sea boat. The rocket slammed into the sea boat, leaving nothing
but a burning oil slick on the water.

"Fucking Hell!" the pilot of the helicopter yelled as she saw the sea
boat explode. She aimed the chaingun and opened fire. Rounds smashed through
fibreglass, through flesh, through the fuel tank.

Captain Van Zulen watched as the helicopter circled the two patches of
burning oil. Sadly she left the bridge and headed to her cabin. She had
signals to send and letters to write. To the families of 9 of her crew.
Telling them that their loved ones would never be coming home.
