Spike burst into Anne-Lise's bedroom, shotgun held menacingly under
one arm. "So," he cried, "what's the bloody emergency? I was watching
Dawson's Creek."
Anne-Lise moaned, "Oni? Oni de wa asimaren." She turned her head
slightly, perspiration coating her face as she lay fevered on her bed.
"Ugh!" Spike exclaimed. "You're all mortal and manky. I wouldn't
bite you like that if you paid me!" He took a closer look and cheered
up. "Hey, are you gonna die?"
Anne-Lise's eyes snapped open. "I can see a thousand Mayor
Wilkens," she claimed, madly.
"He's dead, love." Spiked offered.
"And they've all proposed to Joyce. And she and Buffy are going to
move in with them and live happily ever after in a large brown shoe."
Spike blinked, used to such dementia from a past flame. "Uhuh," he
said as he tucked her back into bed. "I really don't see that
happening. But, if you're a good little girl, I'll tell you a story
about one little toy the Mayor left behind, which did give the Slayer
some fun..."

"Angel's only doing this to try to get you to do something stupid,"
Willow fumed. "I swear, men can be such jerks sometimes. Dead, or
alive!" Stupid Xander and his evil mojo.
Buffy agreed. "I just hope Giles can find a keep-out spell soon.
I'll know I'll sleep easier when I can... Uh, sleep easier."
"I'm sure he will. He's like book man! Until then, try and keep
happy thoughts and..." Willow broke off as she caught sight of an
envelope on her bed.
"And what?" Buffy's voice asked on the telephone Willow'd just
dropped. "Willow? Willow...?"

*

"Thanks for having me over, Buffy. Especially on a school night and
all." For some reason, Willow couldn't stop shaking.
"No problem." Awkward pause. "Hey, sorry about your fish!"
"Oh its okay. We hadn't really had time to bond yet. Although, for
the first time, I'm glad my parents didn't let me have a puppy!"
Willow's poor attempt at humour made Buffy want to give her a hug.
She decided to share instead.
"Its so weird," she said. "Every time something like this happens,
my first instinct is to run to Angel. Can't believe its the same
person... He's completely different from the guy that I knew."
"Well, sort of. Except..." Willow bit her lip.
"Except what?"
"You're still the only thing he thinks about." Willow offered a
treasured smile and wondered, Why does that make me so jealous?

"Well good morning ladies!" Xander joined Buffy and Willow as they
trudged up the steps into school. "And what did you two do last
night?"
Willow's mind stalled. "We had kind of a pyjama party. Sleep-over.
With weapons...thing."
Xander blinked. "Ahhh... And I don't suppose either of you had the
presence of mind to locate a camera and capture the moment?"

Buffy stumbled, unaccustomed to the new body she wore. Physically
it was weaker, yet it had a strangely warm inner-strength. She caught
sight of herself in the mirror and gasped. In her reflection, she saw
the flaming red hair and quirky mouth she'd always adored in her best
friend.
"Buffy?" her own voice quavered from somewhere around ground level.
She looked down and saw herself woozily trying to sit up.
"This is weird," she whispered, in Willow's voice.

*

Somehow they muddled through the detective's inane questions about
Faith's attack. Thankfully, Joyce did most of the talking.
"Mom?" Willow asked, nervously. "I'm just going up to my room
with... Willow. She got pretty shook up, okay?"
"Sure honey. I'll check in on you in a while."
"Thanks M... Mrs Summers," Buffy said.
Poor child, Joyce thought as she noticed Willow's stutter. She
really is badly shaken up.
"I'll give your mother a call," she said. "Tell her you're staying
at my house tonight. I know she's not expecting you home, but if she
hears about things on the news, she might try and call you and get
worried if you don't answer."
Willow nodded, and gave Buffy a glare.
Buffy finally took her cue. "Oh. Thanks, Mrs Summers."
"Its no problem." Joyce smiles, wanly. It was rare, being the mother
of a Slayer, that she got chance to indulge her maternal instincts.
She seized the opportunity to feel needed, and herded the two girls
inside.

"Okay," Buffy demanded, as soon as she was alone in her room with
Willow. "What the hell happened? One minute I'm battling psycho bitch-
creep from Hell, and the next I'm picking myself up off the floor in
your body."
Willow floundered, unsure where to begin. "Tara and I... We tried a
spell to see if we could locate Faith, but it got all screwed up
because we didn't have any personal items of hers."
Buffy nodded. "Okay... Sounds like a reasonable plan."
"Hey, thanks!" Willow smiled. She reached up to twine her fingers in
her hair, and looked perplexed when she realised it wasn't there
anymore.
Buffy noticed, smiled a patented Willow perky-smile, and passed her
a big stuffed Panda to hug. "What happened next?" she asked.
"Oh... Then we tried a spell to locate the Slayer. We figured it
would show us where both you and Faith were."
"Again, logical." Buffy agreed. "So what went wrong?"
"Nothing!" Willow shrugged. "It showed us visions of you on your way
home, and Faith... already here. Tara went to fetch Giles, I came
here after you, try to give you some advance warning." Her face
clouded over. "I guess I was a little too late."
Buffy gave her a comforting hug. "Its okay, Willow. We'll sort
things out. Did you see what happened to cause us to switch?"
"Yep. Faith had some sort of... device in her hand when I came in. I
thought it was a weapon of some sort, so I tried to grab her hand
before she could hit you with it. Then there was a flash of light and
kablooie!" She waved her hands emphatically.
"And that's when we switched bodies." Buffy stretched and
frowned. "I feel so strange." She raised an eyebrow. "And for some
reason, still horny." She looked up, caught Willow's shocked gaze and
blushed. "I always get horny during a prolonged fight," she
admitted. "I guess its not just a chemical or hormonal thing after
all."
Willow swallowed. "I guess not."
Buffy caught Willow's look. You can't hide a secret from your best
friend, especially when its written all over your own face. Buffy's
eyes widened, and her face slowly formed into a Willow-with-extra-
homework expression. "You were already horny!" she accused. "You...
and Tara?"
Willow shook her head, mournfully. "No... Well, not really." she
amended. "Its just the way I always feel... when I'm around you."
The silence was broken by Joyce bringing them coffee. She noticed
the lack of conversation, smiles and movement, and took it as her cue
to retreat back to the kitchen.
"I'll, uh, be downstairs if you need me, girls?" she paused. Buffy
gave her an infinitesimal nod, and she closed the door softly.
"Buffy?" Willow whispered once Joyce had departed. A tear trickled a
liquid path down her cheek.
"How?" Buffy began, but trailed off. She was still in shock.
"How what, Buffy?" Willow entreated.
"How long..." Buffy tried once more, her voice hoarse yet
undemanding. "How long have you been in love with me?"
"A long time," Willow admitted. "Since the time you held me in your
arms, in your bed... After Angel killed my fish."
"I remember," Buffy said, softly. She went quiet again.
"Are we...?" Willow asked in a tone she hadn't realised her voice
could manage, somewhere between hurt and weary. "Are we still good?"
"Oh god, Willow," Buffy pulled her into a tight embrace. "Don't you
know how long I've needed you?"

*

Joyce looked in on her daughter and Willow on her way to bed. She
saw them, asleep in each other's arms, lying dressed side-by-side on
Buffy's bed where they'd obviously cried themselves to sleep. She
decided to leave them be. Obviously Buffy had never told her
everything that had happened between Faith and her, if it'd affected
her and her friends so seriously. Sadly, she turned off the light and
closed the door.

Buffy woke to see Willow gazing at her with what, until last night,
had been her own eyes. "Hey you," she greeted.
"Hi," Willow replied. "I guess we'd better go see Giles."
"I guess," Buffy agreed. "Although, I've no idea what he's going to
see."
"I know what you mean." Willow frowned. "Everything feels so
different today."
Memories of the words they'd shared the night before slowly
filtered into Buffy's head. "That's a good thing, right?" she asked.
Willow nodded, biting her lip softly. "I have an irresistible urge
to kiss you," she confessed, melting Buffy's heart. "Except... It'd
be like kissing a sister, 'cos, you know. You look like me. Weird,
huh?"
"Majorly." Buffy smiled as Willow looked down at herself, her
lightly toned Slayer's body. "Hey, you be careful with that!" she
admonished with a grin. "I want it back in one piece!"
"I just hope Giles has the right spell handy," Willow fretted.
"He will," Buffy said. A mischievous glint shone in her eyes. "Or
I'll have to kick his ass!" she jutted her chin.
Willow's eyes widened. "Hey!" she exclaimed. "Not in my body,
mister!" She regarded Buffy with a hint of melancholy. "I bruise
easily."
Buffy leaned forward, unexpectedly, and gave Willow a soulful kiss,
catching the now-blonde unawares. She felt the warm glow of desire
build at the base of her stomach.
"I'm just glad of one thing," she whispered huskily as they broke
apart.
"What's that?" Willow mumbled, lost in rapture.
"It was you that came to rescue me last night, and not Xander."
Buffy giggled as Willow choked up.
