Fragment: Angst
"Just a thought," Anne-Lise bit her lip.
--
"What's wrong?" Willow dangled her legs over the edge of her bed and
regarded her best friend.
"Oh, you know. I was just thinking about my mom. With Faith back in
town, well... She knows where I live. She might just be crazy enough
to attack her to get at me."
"Maybe you should go see her?"
"I will," Buffy agreed. "Right after I check in with Giles."
"Do you want some company?" Willow regarded Buffy concernedly.
"Sure. Actually, if you could go straight to my house, you can let
her know I'm on my way!"
"Ha! You only want me to tell her all the juicy gossip about you and
Riley so I don't have to embarrass you with it over dinner."
Buffy flushed. "Still so very shallow." she said, in a quiet voice.

"Mom? Willow?" Buffy ran into the house expecting trouble. One of
the small windows in the front door had been broken, and the door
itself had been ajar. Frantically, she ran from room to room until
she came to her mother's bedroom where Faith stood, slightly dazed,
knife in hand. Willow and Joyce were both slumped at her feet, either
dead or unconscious - Buffy couldn't tell.
"Faith!" Buffy lashed into the Slayer who'd only recently come out
of a coma Buffy had put her in. For Buffy, words were no longer
necessary, and when Faith murmured, "Please, wait..." she didn't even
hesitate at plunging Mr. Pointy into Faith's evil heart. Events
suddenly came crashing back, and Buffy slumped to her knees, sobbing.
It was Joyce who recovered first, drifting slowly back to
consciousness to see her daughter drenched in crimson blood.
"Oh my god, Buffy, are you okay?"
"Yes mom... I... I killed her."
"She tried to kill us first, darling. It was... self-defence... Oh
honey!" Joyce tried to console her daughter.
"Is Willow okay?" Buffy hadn't the emotional will or energy to move,
her eyes pleaded with her mother to check. 'Please,' she
thought. 'Let her be okay. Please god, let me have been in time.'
"I think she's okay," Buffy's mom said. "She's waking up."
Willow groaned as she came round. "What hit me?" she murmured.
Buffy sobbed, relieved beyond measure.
"Willow!" she gasped. "Thank god you're okay. You are okay, right?"
Willow shook her head, trying to clear away the cobwebs. "Five by
five," she said.
