Trinity's Child 19/?

Jenny lay snuggled up to Paul, her head resting comfortably on his
chest. The steady, comforting rhythm of his heartbeat and breathing, coupled
with the special scent that was Paul, acted like a powerful relaxant. Idly
she ran a finger through the sparse hairs on his chest and was thankful that
he wasn't hairy like some men.

There was a certain comfort in knowing, deep down in your soul, who
you were destined to spend eternity with. No wasting time chasing Mr Wrong,
not having to worry about finding 'The One', no boyfriends from hell. Didn't
stop the odd date from hell happening, Jenny thought to herself with a grin.

She could remember one time when Paul tried to cook a romantic candle
lit dinner for them. Her parents were out of the house for the weekend and
Paul had cooked up a really nice dinner. Unfortunately his sleeve caught fire
when he tried handing Jenny the salt. The house didn't burn down but all the
hairs on his forearm were singed and his favourite shirt didn't take it too
well.

As she tended to his minor burns, they were struck by the deep sense
of love they shared. Gently, sweetly they kissed. They kissed again, with
growing passion. That night, they made love for the first time.

She and Paul had been inseparable since they were young. Where there
was one, the other wasn't far away. Her Dad had remarked that it reminded him
of himself and a certain red head when they were young. Her parents
understood the depth of her and Paul's love. They shared that level of love
with each other.

People asked if she felt strange having three parents. She would reply
that it was about as strange as the sun rising in the morning. Her parents
loved each other, and they loved her. Some kids never know what it feels like
to know a parents love. She knew the love of three.

She could remember when she was 7, her and her Dad decided to cook
breakfast in bed on Mother's Day. The end result was a huge mess in the
kitchen and something resembling pancakes and scrambled eggs. Her Mums were
delighted at the gesture. The taste wasn't delightful, but they ate it anyway
so as not to hurt her feelings.

She could remember her Mum teaching her how to ice skate and
impressing those there with her Slayer coordination and speed. She could
remember riding piggy back, the world rushing by as her Mum raced around the
ice rink, the wind whistling in her face.

She could remember her first school swimming carnival. Her Mum
cheering like mad from the stand, her long red hair in stark contrast with
the fluoro green zinc on her nose. The look of pure delight on her Mum's face
when she gave her the ribbon she had won in the race. Her Mum's painful
redness of the next day from the sunburn she got supporting her little girl.

But most of all, she could remember Christmas. Her parents, Paul,
Grandma and Grandpa, Uncle Spike. The happiness of the day. The sheer joy of
being a family together on such a special day. The last perfect day.

Grandma dead. Grandpa crippled. Her parents hunting the Watchers
Council. She and Paul hiding from the men that tore her family apart. There
was nothing she could do to make it better. So she patrolled with Paul and
the others. She was her mothers daughter. When evil comes your way, fight it.
But Paul and the others wouldn't let her fight. She had yet to land so much
as a punch on a vamp. She felt like a spectator.

But they did it not to hurt her. They did it to protect her because
they loved her. That didn't change the fact that it was frustrating not being
able to take her anger out on something that deserved it.

With a little sigh, she closed her eyes and hoped that tomorrow night
would bring a better opportunity.

They patrolled the back streets. Li and Tran in front, Spike behind
them, Paul ever present by her side, Taryn and Tanya covering their backs.
The patrol had been uneventful so far. Word must have been getting out to the
vamps that it wasn't safe on the streets at the moment. They rounded a corner.

At the end of the alley way they saw a truck being loaded by demons.
Carefully they crept closer, hiding behind a delivery van. They watched as a
man directed the demons to collect boxes and put them into the back of the
truck. Jenny looked at Spike who watched the scene with puzzlement.

"You don't know what kind of demons they are?" Jenny asked the blond
vamp.

"Strange. They look like the Sisterhood of Jhe." he told her.

"The what?" Jenny puzzled.

"The Sisterhood of Jhe. Apocalyptic demons. Your parents fought a
couple of them back when they were in high school. Well, that's to say your
mothers fought them while your father popped his cherry by shagging that
other Slayer." Spike told her. Jenny gave a little shudder.

"Ugh.. more information than I ever wanted to hear." Jenny said as she
tried to shake the scary visuals out of her head. She steered the
conversation back to the demons.

"OK, you know what kind of demon they are, so what's with the question
mark?"

"It's just strange. The Sisterhood want to destroy the world. Or more
specifically the human race. They should be eating that bloke, not doing his
lifting and carrying."

"Maybe he's got them under his control." Paul ventured. Spike shook
his head.

"No. That bloke looks really unhealthy. I don't think he could control
the Sisterhood any more than I could tan." Which was true. The man looked
pale and sickly. Yet the Sisterhood were doing as he directed them to do.

"What do we do now?" Paul asked.

"I vote kill the demons and torture the guy until he talks." Spike
said in a reasonable manner.

"Sounds good to me." said Taryn with a little shrug. When there was no
reply, Paul conferred with Spike.

"We'll go with the plan, less the torture bit." Paul told the vamp.

"Suit yourself." Spike said, putting on his game face. Seven on four.
Those kind of odds Spike liked.

They crept closer, trying to get as close as possible without alerting
the Sisterhood. A feral roar came from one of the she demons as they were
spotted. The Sisterhood charged the group, and several other demons that were
unseen in the building. Not good.

The group rushed in front of Jenny and started the battle. Spike
slashing, punching and stabbing one of the larger she demons. Taryn and Tanya
fought side by side, holding their own against a couple of the Sisterhood. Li
and Tran were like dark shapes as they dispensed their own style of violence.
Paul stood in front of Jenny like a human shield. Any demons that wanted a
piece of Jenny had to come through him.

He had just flipped a demon over and split her head open with his axe
when one of the Sisterhood knocked him down. It stood over him, looking down
at him with evil eyes. Terrified for her lover, Jenny screamed. The demon
shifted her attention to Jenny. Jenny screamed again as the demon charged her.

In total fear for her life, Jenny kicked out at the demon with all her
strength. The kick connected. The demon was sent flying high over their heads
and landed several meters away. Paul looked up in shock as Jenny stood there
wondering what the hell just happened. A feral roar from a demon snapped her
attention back to the battle. She helped her soulmate up and then entered the
battle.

She fought with a sense of power. The fight felt natural, great
strength coursed through her veins. Demons went flying, Jenny was like a
force of nature. The tide of battle changed with Jenny's new found strength.

Sensing the battle was being lost the remaining demons grabbed the man
and jumped into the truck. With the engine reeving, the truck tore away,
scattering the group as it nearly ran them down. With the truck gone, the
only sound was that of their own heavy breathing. Tanya went over to check
out a couple of boxes the demons left behind. Spike and the others went over
to where Jenny was standing.

"What the hell just happened?" Paul asked Jenny. Jenny couldn't
answer, she had no idea herself. Spike did however.

"Smurfette. See that lump of concrete, see how far you can throw it."
Spike said slowly, indicating to a large lump near the loading bay. Jenny
picked it up with ease and hurled it twenty or thirty meters away. The others
looked on in stunned silence.

"How did you do that?" Li asked Jenny. Spike closed his eyes and shook
his head in anger and sadness.

"You bastards. YOU SODDING BASTARDS!" Spike raged and sank to his
knees. He looked up to the heavens, grief and anger etched on his face. "YOU
BASTARDS!!!! WHY?!?!?! WHY HER?!?!?" he raged. Jenny slowly approached Spike.

"What is it?" Jenny asked in a small voice.

"You've been called." Spike told her sadly.

"Called?"

"Chosen. Like your mother before you. You are the Chosen One." Spike
said, drained of emotions.

"You mean..." Jenny asked, overwhelmed.

"The Slayer. You are the Slayer."
