Subject: No, Actually I'm not Blind
Well, it's good news for my mental health, but bad news for my "Buffy"
habit.
"Buffy" DVDs are not currently available through Amazon.com. Indeed,
the movie DVD (list price $20, Amazon price $15) is not on sale until
September 4th, but it is available for pre-order.
"Buffy" is available at Amazon.co.uk. However, these are listed as
"Region 2 DVDs (Europe, Middle East and Japan only)" so I don't know if
they are specially coded not to play on DVD players sold in North
America, or if they simply won't be shipped here. I'm afraid it's the
former.
Season 1 (List: £45 Amazon: £40) is available, but customer reviews
indicate that the picture quality is quite poor, especially in dark
scenes (obviously a problem for "Buffy" as opposed to "Friends"). Also,
the price is relatively high, half the eps of later seasons for more
than half the cost.
Season 2 (List: £76, no discount currently available) is listed as
unavailable, which I really don't understand. However, the British
viewer can probably find it in stores and such. The picture problems
seem to be solved and the packaging is beautiful.
Season 3 (List: £80, Amazon: £64) is currently taking pre-orders in
anticipation of a 29th October release date.
I also read a review that indicates that the DVDs are available in
Region 4 (Australia), but I didn't look up prices and such.
If anyone knows if Region 2 DVDs can play on Region 1 players, please
let me know. Otherwise I'll simply have to wait (or buy a region 2
player, I guess.)
I'm also going to e-mail 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and see if
I can get info out of them.
Hoping this helps,
Dan
