"You guessed. Still, it matters not - Miss Jennings' participation is an essential part of tonight's work. She has too fluent a habit ofasking questions."

"And the Slayer - Samantha Rose -- ?"

"I had hoped that she would participate . indeed, I had envisaged that she might Embrace the Dark Side in a very physical way.

"You've never had a Slayer to mentor, have you, Godfrey ? No, of course not - I brought you here, for far more important reasons. I havenever understood the rationale, but it appears that the girls who are called as potential Slayers have to pay a price for access to the heightened senses and reactions a Slayer requires. Often this comes as a diminution, oran alteration, in their mental processes. In Faith Spencer's case, she lost the will to distinguish between right and wrong: her world became one ruled by expediency. In Buffy Summers, it manifested as the loss of her respect for authority: as a Slayer, she questions every order given her, ratherthat trusting her elders to guide her."
