I never really got the whole 'death is my gift' thing on the show. Somehow,
as the reason for Buffy sacrificing herself, it just didn't really work. Now
your explanation does make sense. In fact, it makes perfect sense. As Death
says, it's not Buffy's function to kill, but rather to slay, to remove that
which is keeping those who have died from moving on. Death is indeed her
gift. A gift to those who would otherwise be trapped in an intolerable
semi-existence. A very moving and satisfying chapter. And best of
all....she's baaack.<g>
