Absolutely I can understand that and for the most part agree. Then the
"demon" in me pushes toward the surface.. the creative demon. This mixed
with and insaitiable curiosity often leads me into trouble :-)

You actually hit the nail on the head with that... I'm talking about
realism. Seems almost insane given the subject matter but all you need do is
look at any good writer and regardless of whether it's B/W X/A or
Mulder/Scully and if they are in Sunnydale or on the Forest Moon on Endor
The best fics all have that realism. There's always the *hint* of yes maybe
it COULD happen. Really as much as I have my favourite authours and pairings
I like to read what I crave most is reality or at least the semblance of it.
The Irish/Brit, India/Paki thing is real and for the most part so is the
interaction between the characters that are written in all the fics we
read.. Hell even Anne-Lise's last Snippet with Buffy, Joyce, Sheila and
Willow had it. Fanfic is all about "what if" and seeing the things we want
and are possibly never likely to see on any network on the planet. And for
that reason I don't have a problem with ANY pairing or anything people will
or won't write or read, in a strange way it's a very personal thing.

**** WARNING - POSSIBLE NASTINESS AHEAD*****

I remember not that long ago reading a fic (it might have even been a
series) where Willow was raped by Oz. I started to read it out of curiosity
(that ALWAYS gets me in trouble) and then continued through many tears and
deep breaths to the end. Not sure why I did that to myself at the time but
when I looked back I realised why I finished it and why it affected me so..
It was REAL, all too real, in fact. I've had friends who have been raped and
have helped them through it as best I can and it's a horrible thing. And the
reactions, the emotions, the feeling. WOW. From my POV as a writer it was
AWESOME. A real tour de force. Sure you had a scene or two that dragged you
back and made you realise this was Buffy Fanfic but on the whole.. WOW
Defnitely not warm fuzzies and a minimal amount of "otherworldliness" but it
was real-life. And as much as fanfic is an escape from that, it can't exist
without it and when they are together they are that much stonger bit like
Buffy and Willow (oblig. shipper reference) :-)

The sad fact of the matter is it happens.. look at Sept 11 and think about
something I actually saw in a tagline to a msg on this group..

"If you are not afraid of the dark, maybe you should walk through the soul
of mankind."

I used to collect quotes and sadly I don't think I've ever heard truer words
spoken. *SIGH*

Gotta love them.. Funnily enough it was a serious hot and heavy bout of B/W
warm fuzzies that brought this beast to life...

And I'm still The Watcher. Although since I've been him, he's had a hit TV
series with a mojor character with his name/position pop up then a serial
killer flick.. DAMN!!! Next time I think I'll become the Carpet Snake or
something like that.. :-)
