Cough. Well, while i am definately not happy with Willow's about
face, and the very heavy-handed writing they are using to do it in, I
think that Something Blue did show that she was willing to basically
use a love spell on Oz to get him back. She was more upset in that
situation.
Just to show that i throw rocks at everyone, Tara did much the
same thing when she cast her 'dont see demons' spell, and they all
forgave her pretty easily. Again, greater circumstances, but still.
I feel like this injunction against magic just kinda sprung up out
of the grass all of a sudden so they could do this (lame) story arc.
Magic has been talked about for the whole show, and i feel that it
was like any tool, the use determined the morality. we have heard of
wizards etc who have sealed demons, and witches who have made
artifacts, were they all working with a fundamentally evil force,
because that is what they say it is if it can only be used to fight
evil directly, and then its still bad. Magic is dangerous, yes, but
in the same way as a gun. Make a mistake, and someone can get hurt,
and it can give people a sense of power which encourages them to act
poorly, but a strong moral character and control and determination
can prevent this. And I think that we all agree Willow has always
had the moral character and determination, and over the course of the
show she has been learning control.
Now all of a sudden we have any magic use other than church-
sanctioned monster killing is bad. And don't use magic to violate the
laws of nature? Isn't that basically what magic is for? Maybe not
to bring the dead back to life, which has great significance past the
mere physical, but to float, and throw lightning, or to conjure a few
decorations to make a friend happy. Speaking of decorations, if the
party was planned, then it is indeed poor form to magic up
decorations instead of putting forth the effort to show that you care
about the people involved enough to spend effort on them. But if its
a surprise special occasion, and it is within your ability to make it
more special for those you love, then do it.
Bad pathways and rationalizations aside, I have to admit to
being somewhat intruiged by the evil willow possibility. Vamp willow
touched on it, but I don't remember Buffy running up against any
really competent evil (or really otherwise) magic users. It could be
an interesting battle, pitting the purely physical slayer against a
mental force, who can prevent you from even approaching you. (let
alone a sigh, former, best friend.
And if the power willow draws on is a dark one, lets think about
what Dracula revealed to buffy about her power. Hmmm. Two
warriors, both drawing increasingly on the power of darkness to fight
the darkness, spiraling together deeper into the night. I'd love to
have a good writer go at that one.
Damn that was the biggest rant ive ever gone off on. it must be
that fact that its five thirty. Anything else?

Well i must say i liked what i heard of tara's voice im looking
forward to hearing her sing. and of course giles.

speaking of dawn, she definately overreacted. Sure she was necking
with the cute guy, (who looked about 5 years older than her) but to
get that broken up about someone who she'd 'seen at parties' !!!!!
please.

I promise, thats it.

It really is.

you can stop reading.
