FIC: Buffy: The Musical, B/W style

DISCLAIMER: All characters and places belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy,
et al.
SPOILERS: 6th season
FEEDBACK: I'd love to hear your thoughts about this. It's an experiment.
Bash me. I'll take it. Don't ban me, because I feed on your fic.
SONGS: I've done a score draft of one of the songs ("I'll never forget").
"So Beautiful" is an adaption of a song by Dune with the same title. "Somewhere
I've never been" is a poem by Femvamp.
DEDICATED TO: Casandra (still thanks for brightening up my day) and
Anne-Lise, Queen Of Snippets (I loved your B/W musical snippets).
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
It all started on October 30th. I was watching Moulin Rouge at my local
cinema.
That reminded me of what I read on the list about a mysterious musical
episode, still to come in the U.S. (I live in Germany and we have season 5 here at
the moment).

Suddenly I realized: The solution is here, right before your eyes... It's in
the posts of Casandra, Mad Hamlet, Femvamp and Kirayoshi. This is based upon
their ideas, their texts. I just added my own two Euro cents ;-)

During the weekend before November 6th, I wrote the following first draft of
a treatment.

So here it is: the musical episode, B/W style. And this is where the movie
in your head should start.

TEASER:

We open with a wide angle shot of a sub-urban area street in some town, with
trees, cars parking in front of small houses, neighbourhood bliss.

We slowly approach two girls sitting right on the street. They are about
nine or ten years old. One has long blonde hair, the other one's is red and
shorter.

They are playing some child's game <I have a specific one in mind but don't
know how it's called in English> while singing:

"Buffy and Willow sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g"

They giggle. Then they start over again and keep on singing while we're
zooming out again.

Their song fades and...

...we dissolve to:

A NEW INTRO:

Short bits of all our favorite subtext moments between Buffy & Willow,
slowly fading into each other.

Buffy: "Why don't we start with 'Hi, I'm Buffy'?"
("Welcome to the Hellmouth")

Buffy: "Wow. You're a dish. I mean, really."
("Halloween")

Buffy: "I need my Willow."
("The Zeppo")

Willow: "It's a good fight, Buffy, and I want in."
Buffy: "I kind of love you."
("Choices")

Riley (to Willow): "I don't know that much about Buffy.
But I'm interested in what she likes, and so far, well,
the only thing that I know she likes is you."
("The Initiative")

Buffy: "I love you. You're my best friend."
Willow: "Oh, me, too. I love you, too."
Buffy: "Let's promise to never not talk again."
Willow: "I promise, I promise."
("Primeval")

Willow: "I love you so much!"
Buffy: "I know..."
("The Body")

Fade out.

Anthony Stewart Head (off camera):

"So creation turns against creator,
considering Joss a bloody traitor
against the eternal principles - all above -
of truth and beauty, freedom and love."

FIRST ACT:

Fade in.

It's dawn. Willow is sitting on a hill, watching the sunrise.

She is brooding. No one understands her. Even Tara, her lover and fellow
witch, has turned her down. They had a fight and split up. Her mentor Giles
accused her of unjustified use of magic for each and everything.

However, Willow also feels that what she did to Tara - making her forget
about their fight - wasn't right. Although it was so easy, so tempting. So she
must do something good to compensate for that.

<This is told in a song, of which I am not worthy to write neither lyrics
nor score.>

To prove her friends that her magic can truly make the world better and she
will only use it for good from now on, Willow tries to seal the Hellmouth
using the Urn of Isis (Osiris' wife), the 'Great of Magic'. The spell didn't
seem to work.

Some hours later: We are on Sunnydale's Main Street. People are shopping,
birds are singing. It's as blissful as a town on the Hellmouth can be at noon.
A loud clap of thunder is heard. The earth is shaking, then the trembling
stops. The birds fall silent. Everything is very silent. Too silent.
Instead of closing it, Willow opened the Gate to Hell. Vampires and demons
appear everywhere out of nowhere and start running around - in bright
daylight!

Fade out.

SECOND ACT:

Fade in.

The Scoobies meet at Buffy's home later when Giles states the only
explanation of what is going on: The End Of Time has begun. It will be completed when
the sun is wholly set. And it cannot be stopped, since the portal can't be
sealed again.

Willow, however, knows what can be done:
She must sacrifice her life, because only the life of the very person
responsible for the disturbance of the eternal balance between good and evil will
suffice to cause a jump back in time where someone might be able to prevent
the whole thing from happening.

She goes out of Buffy's house as the sun starts to set. Buffy follows her.
She wants to find out what's wrong, but they don't find a connection.

Willow sings:

Remember me -
and if I go
think only this of me:
That I was there
whenever I was needed,
served distinguishly then,
and was inconspicuous
(almost inaudible:)
to you
(normal:)
otherwise.

Buffy almost gets it - almost.

She realizes what Willow is about to do and tries to prevent it, but Willow
pushes her away. Willow goes through the portal and dies. At that moment, the
sun is wholly set.

Fast rewind of the second and first act, slowing down as we approach were we
started until we reach normal speed.

THIRD ACT:

It's dawn. Willow is sitting on a hill, watching the sunrise.

Fast-forward through the first and second act until...

Willow finally tries to find out what's between her and Buffy since the
Slayer returned. She's going to die anyway, so why not learn the truth? This time
they find a connection.
They talk about everything: about Willow missing her so much, Buffy's
return, and her not having been in hell. When she learns the truth about "hell",
Willow's so overwhelmed that she falls down to her knees.

Finally, they admit their love for each other.

Buffy sings:

I've done most everything
fought most things
I've been most everywhere
and seen what evil brings

I've stood upon the ruins of hate
I've seen through lovers eyes
I've even seen what happens
when eternal love dies.

I've looked death in the eyes
and laughed in its face
I've defeated most everything
I've even defeated fate.

But there's somewhere I've never been
and that's in your arms
There's one place I must go:
straight to your heart.

In my life I've learned one thing
that there is only one sin
to live your life with the regret
that love is somewhere you've never been.

Any place that has you in it is heaven to me, Will.

They kiss. They have a beautiful day. They make love for the first time.

They watch the sunset. Then, Willow tells Buffy what she has to do. Buffy
tries to talk her out of it, but accepts finally that this is their only
chance.
She promises to remember, to prevent her from doing the silly spell that
starts the whole thing.

They sing a duet:

(Buffy:)
I will never forget
...the day that we've had
never forget
...your smile
never forget
...your touch
never forget
...your lips on my lips
never forget
...the love that me made

(Willow:)
if the door gets closed again
that was so hard for us to open

if that invisible wall is up again
that was so hard for us to tear down

(Buffy:)
Don't go away from me
Lovers just for one day

Don't break my heart again
so I'll remember you.

(Willow:)
I'll never forget

(Buffy:)
I'll never forget

(Willow and Buffy:)
I'll never forget

(Buffy, her voice breaking:)
You

Willow has to go. They kiss, Buffy holds Willow's head, they hold each other
close, they hold hands, just their fingertips touch each other as if glued
by the power of love, they part. They both cry.

Willow goes into the portal and dies.

The sun sets.

Fast rewind of the third act.

FOURTH ACT:

It's dawn. The first rays of a new day fall into Buffy's room and onto her
face. She is sleeping.

Suddenly Buffy wakes up. She sits up, breathing heavily. Her face is a
mixture of horror, loss and pure bliss, as if she just woke up from a beautiful
and - at the same time - nightmarish dream.

She sees a ghostly image of her and Willow kissing. Buffy remembers! Beyond
all you would expect, she remembers.
She quickly dresses and runs out.

She finds Willow and breaks the urn she's doing the sealing spell with.

They admit their love. They kiss. They have a beautiful day. They make love
for the first time.

They sing another duet:

(Willow:)
You know now,
Buffy, I love you
And the best thing is
That you love me too.

(Buffy:)
Come take my hand
Walk into the sun
Leave the world behind
No need to run.

(Both:)
So beautiful
So beautiful
So beautiful
So beautiful
You

Together, hand in hand, they watch the sunset.

Fade to black.

THE END

(Grrr...arrgh!)
