Buffy sat at the desk in the dorm room, staring down at the strip of
passport-sized photographs of Willow and herself. She turned to the back and
looked at the date. <Has it really been two years? Doesn't seem that long at
all.> She turned it again and studied the pictures, tracing the shape of
Willows face with her index finger. She could remember the day they were
taken clearly in her mind.
//flash back//
It had been a wonderful, clear sunny day and it seemed as though they didn't
have a care in the world. None of the passers-by would have guessed from
looking at the two happy, smiling young women that one of them held the
weight of the world on her shoulders and the other helped her carry that
burden. That afternoon was one of the rare occasions when Buffy felt like a
regular schoolgirl, not slayer-girl. It was before the whole Faith/Mayor
fiasco and before Willow had told Buffy that she was staying in Sunnydale to
'fight the good fight'.
They had decided to make a special trip to the mall to have photos taken,
they were going to be a continuous reminder of their friendship no matter
what they chose to do after High School. It had been Willows' idea and Buffy
had agreed without hesitation. They were going to be personal reminders of
their High School friendship, something extra besides their yearbooks.
They walked hand in hand to the photo booth, giggling and joking about
nothing in particular. Once inside Willow pulled the curtain shut, sat down
on the seat and started playfully pushing against Buffy to get closest to
the camera. In the end Buffy had picked Willow up, placed her on her lap and
said something silly like 'now we're both in the middle'. After posing for
several minutes they had taken two sets of photos, one for each of them.
When they were all done Willow had held them face down, mixed them up and
held them out to Buffy. Buffy had picked the left one.
//present//
The first photo showed them both with big cheesy grins. In the second Buffy
had dared Willow to put on her resolve face, which she tried to copy and
failed miserably. She remembered Willow bursting into laughter when she saw
Buffy's effort to copy her. She smiled as she looked at the third picture.
It showed Willow laughing uncontrollably and Buffy pretending to pout which
had made Willow laugh even harder. They had managed to compose themselves
just in time for the last picture, it showed them holding each other. Willow
had sneaked a hand up behind Buffy's head and was making the victory sign.
Buffy could swear she saw a twinkle of mischief in Willows eyes... The same
type of twinkle that the sexy redhead currently had in her eyes, as she lay
on the bed waiting patiently for Buffy to join her.
