Re: Mr. Gordo Question :)
CDS
A quick Google-search of the transcripts reveals:
Mr. Gordo has made two formal appearances (he's doubtless been on
Buffy's bed--lucky him!--many other times), Buffy caught Angel
fondling him in "What's My Line, Part 1", and he was one of the personal
items Sunday's little gang o' vamps put their undead hands on in "The
Freshman".
In addition, as Cas noted, he was one of the things Willow told Riley
about Buffy in "The Initiative". So Riley's List of Things Buffy Likes
consists of Willow (the one he knew going in), cheese, Mr. Gordo, and
the ice capades (without the irony).
No mention is made of where he came from ("he" being Mr. Gordo, not
Riley, who came from Joss in a very uninspired mood), but since he's
been linked to ice skating twice (in "WML1", it's the next thing Angel
notices about the room) and that was a Buffy-Hank ritual, maybe he was a
gift from Dad (as Kirayoshi suggests).
Side note on the "Dorothy Hamill" phase. Many folks like to claim that
as a chronology goof, since Dorothy (the pride of Cos Cob, Connecticut)
won her gold medal in 1976 at Innsbruck) but Buffy wasn't born until
1981. However, Dorothy was doing ice shows throughout the '80s and it
would have been quite likely Hank took young Buffy to one and that's
what inspired her to lace up the skates herself.
BTW, isn't figure skating a heck of an ambition for a kid in LA to have?
Not that it hasn't happened IRL (see Michelle Kwan, among others).
Hope this helps,
Dan
(hey, while I was proofreading this letter it occurred to me this sounds
like a pretty good Fic Challenge, so I challenge you all: Write a fic
involving Buffy and those things she likes--Willow, cheese, Mr. Gordo,
and the ice capades. BTW, don't forget Willow's bad experience with
"Snoopy on Ice", back in the day.)
