I have to disagree with the above statement. Buffy is not out of character.
She is in character. In the last episode of last season, Buffy made it
perfectly clear that she was tired, tired, really tired of always having to
make the difficult decision. The one she really never recovered from was
having to kill Angel to save the world. Granted, Angel came back, but it
wasn't the same. The final decision she had to made to prevent Dawn from
dying was to sacrifice herself. Her ultimate gift. Then her friends pulled
her out of all places, "I think it was heaven!"
Any research on people who have been brought back from death all relate a
beautiful place that they did not want to leave. Once back, their lives
changed. Now take Buffy and what happens she comes back to "hell on earth."
Which is what she thought had happened. Again to her, she had no choice but
to fight the hell's demons on wheels.
It would make no sense in continuity, if the writers erased all the above
and had her react as Faith had been doing, i.e. cold; shut down, etcetera.
Buffy is not Faith. Both tie in with being a slayer, both tie in with the
feelings they experience after a kill. But until Angel last year, Faith was
not willing to take responsibility for her actions, not in the "good" way.
Buffy shared those feelings only for a short time. And now coming back from
"heaven", you expect her to disregard her original life-slayer goals?
I may not like the feelings generated in me by Buffy this season because
there are too many emotions connected with as Joss says, "This season is all
about 'Oh Grow up!' " But, I have no problems with Buffy being out of
character.
That's at least my take on it.
