Looking at the shooting script, and what was cut from it, I find:
Very sorry to lose the Giles-mention, and indeed the whole Willow/Dawn
scene.
Steven Gilborn's Uncle Rory didn't seem as drunk as the script implied.
Don't mind the cuts to Cousin Carol's part.
Do miss Tony Harris's lecturing the teenage bartender. In the script,
Tony seems more of a bastard and Jessica more beaten (emotionally,
although probably also physically)--on screen Casey Sander had a
certain blowhard quality and Lee Garlington's Jessica was less pathetic,
and thus less sympathetic. (read the description of how Tony
raises--and then dashes--her fragile hopes in the toast, for example.)
In vision #1, I liked Xander's lines accusing Anya of liking him being a
part of the Scooby Gang, but they weren't entirely necessary, and might
have slowed things down. However, in #2, I did miss Josh's following in
Mom's footsteps in the stock market (it plays nicely into Sarah's
"momma's boy" taunt, which remained).
Glad to see that "Spike doesn't even know his date's name" was a figment
of the B/Sers' imaginations.
On Willow's rescue of Tara, it was supposed to be in fight #2, but you
can't have Tara being pummeled in #1 and not being rescued. To put the
whole "Tara in trouble, followed by Tara being rescued" pair of shots in
fight #2 would contradict with the anti-climactic, more comic nature of
the second brawl, which ends with just a word from Anya.
OTOH, moving Willow's rescue to the first fight, as they did, raises all
our issues about "I thought she was out looking for Xander".
IMO, the solution is to have Tara stay out of the melees, but try and
help Anya (whom she's been following around) against Stewart Burns. He
slaps her, just as he claws Anya, and Willow rescues Tara just like
Buffy and Xander save Anya. No timing problems at all.
