Yep, me too. I think I've gone back and watched the shippy parts about 4
times now and just have a bigger shippy sigh each time :)

least absent, if not over her for certain. Even if not consciously

You know even my mother gaped at that line. She literally spewed her Cherry
Coke across the room incredulously. LOL So even people who are the farthest
away from being B/W shippers saw the subtext in that. In fact, a friend of
mine from campus came up to me on Monday, after we both saw it, and told me
they thought that it was almost quasi canon on Buffy's part. I don't know if
I'd go that far, but it certainly was an interesting line to put in there for
it not to mean anything.
<<And the total, unequivocal smackdown on B/S. Buffy was told to
eliminate the things that made her want to stay in Sunnydale. Buffy
herself (NOT the doctor) immediately said "my friends" and sought them
out to destroy them. But once she had Willow, Xander and Dawn, that was
it, she never even thought of going after Spike. He really does mean
nothing to her. >>
Oh yeah, the B/S ship was hit pretty hard by the episode. Not to mention
Spike's 'love' for Buffy itself. I mean there the girl is, pretty much
freaking out, not knowing what's really going on. And there he is handing
her ultimatums about revealing their boinkfest. When she didn't drink the
antidote I'm sure that was part of the reason. I think she's really afraid
of telling her friends for fear of either losing them, or at least them
looking at her differently. So when Spike gives her the choice, not IF they
found out, but HOW, well slipping into the world where both parents are there
for her seems like a much better solution.
And as much as the B/S can ramble on and on about her being in denial. Well
I think Buffy was the most honest about her feelings in this episode as she
has all season. I could read her reactions and emotions so much better than
any of the episodes before this. And the 'sleeping with a vampire I hate'
line pretty much summed it up. She had no reason to lie to Dawn or herself,
because she didn't think it was real anyway. There's no point in dodging the
truth when you believe the thing you are talking to is fake, a trap you're
mind has created.
And the thing about taking out her friends. Her friends are what she keeps
going back for. Get rid of them and she'll be free. So she goes for the
strongest tie first. Willow. Not Dawn, who was upstairs with her. Willow.
I found that pretty interesting. Plus the ending, with her whispering
Xander's name, not making any kind of sound when Dawn went flying. But
crying out Willow's name and banging her head against the wall when Will went
down. That definitely made the ep for me :)
Anyway, I've managed to ramble :)
