Re: OT: SMG kisses girls, again!

On ratings:

I'm sure there's a certain disappointment that "Buffy" hasn't maintained
the 6.2 rating the premiere got, and is now down in the 4s. And that
"Gilmore Girls" beats it every week. ("Normal Again" got beat by a GG
repeat.)

But UPN is overall beating the WB again, which is a change from last
year. BtVS is easily outdistancing the movies and stuff UPN ran there
last year, whereas WB Thursday nights have collapsed without GG (it's
hurting "Charmed", too--although some of that may be Prue-missage). So
Buffy has filled a hole at UPN, and opened one at WB (the hole is just
on Thursdays, not Tuesdays, due to the move of GG).

"Buffy" is basically doing the same rating it did last year (on WB,
facing crap on UPN) even though its circumstances have changed (on UPN,
facing a relatively powerful show on WB). Not to mention that WB has a
slightly higher audience penetration than UPN, and is generally on more
accessible channels, which is important in non-cable households.

Also, Buffy beats GG in all viewers 18-34, all viewers 18-49 and all
male demographics. So they're losing the teen girl battle, which is
important, but they've got the other "buying power" sectors, and the
overall difference is mostly a reflection of the 50+ female audience.

Maybe not $2.3 million (per ep) worth of success, but I think UPN is
happy.
