Stef,
Catching up on this now. Let me just give a couple of quick thoughts.
4--Good evocation of Buffy's uncertainty and regret. While trauma is
useful for bringing forth emotions that are otherwise repressed, it does
make for a difficult circumstance in which to begin a relationship, and
it's perfectly understandable that Buffy would worry she was putting
pressure on Willow when Will was dependent on her, and worry that she
would be taking advantage of her friend.
Side note: nicely realistic sketch of Buffy making dinner. It's little
details like this that make a fic come alive, often.
5--Delightful moment with Willow shushing Buffy and getting it all
clear. And liked the continuing detail on Will's injuries, and her
jealousy of the slayer healing factor.
Plus, I think the fact that Willow's injuries means they have to take
things slow, physically, makes a very neat metaphor for the complicated
emotions and the need to go slow emotionally. Well done.
6--This chapter won me over right at the beginning. No, not Buffy
sleeping curled up next to Willow, sweet though that was. It was when
the nurse woke her and she left the room, and then came back, realizing
she'd left her boots under the bed. Things like that make me feel I'm
watching people, instead of characters.
You've done a great job of capturing Buffy in a hesitant, fragmented
emotional state, without making it sound like a copy of Willow-babble
here. And Willow's bashfulness and the reasons for it were nicely
sketched. And I have to love "the me that's full of bash"--ahh,
classic BtVS dialogue stylings. Fractured syntax never sounded so good.
Nice speech by Willow about the anxiety factor in having your dreams
come true. (And she's absolutely right, because if your dream goes bad,
there's nothing to fall back on.) And very affecting moment where she
talks about how she used to have to run and hide during the B/A and B/R
days, for fear of letting her emotions out. (Well, just look at "The I
in Team" and the barely-hidden jealousy there.)
And have to love Buffy making with the racy suggestions and getting
Willow simultaneously hot and embarassed. And I simply died at the
suggestion that Willow has taken to identifying herself as "gay" because
she finds "the bi word" too hard to say, what with it having s-e-x right
in it.
Wondering now if Will has ever actually said "sex" on the show?
Glad that I've got four more chapters of this to catch up on?
Dan
