Re: OT and Spoilery. Marti chats with Wanda
First the non-spoilery bit:
So, of all the reasons for Buffy to dislike Spike that Marti could cite,
the one she comes up with is: "I mean, he tried to kill Willow!"
(twice, to be precise--or three or four times, if you want to put the
general mayhem of "School Hard" and "Halloween" in this category)
Tee-hee! Nice to know that Marti knows what should be the Ultimate Evil
in Buffy's eyes. (Which makes this arc all the more inexcusable,
IMO?)
Now
for
the
spoilery
but
not
including
actual
spoilers
section
So, I see that Marti is shocked, I say shocked, that people have
somehow gotten the idea that Buffy and Spike belong together. Well,
gosh, honey, if you hadn't been writing him as Mr. Fluffy Bunny
Perfectly Nice Guy and her as Dumb Slut Who's Repressing Her True
Emotions and so He Has to Ignore Her When She Says "No" and Force Her To
Face Her Feelings For Her Own Good?gee, you get the feeling I wasn't
too happy with the crap the year started with? JMO, of course.
(It's also unfair to the B/Sers, to write it as if there's nothing wrong
with it, and then expect everyone to assume it's not meant to be. We
reacted to what we saw--some loved it, some hated the writers. But to
assume that we were all keeping in mind a history the newer viewers
hadn't seen and it looked like the show was attempting to ignore, that's
silly.)
I guess maybe the writing staff thought that people would be so appalled
by the basic concept of B/S that they'd have work real hard and make
Spike look extra-nice so people would be able to believe she could make
such an "obvious" mistake. If that's true that's the worst case of
reading people since Bush gave the Taliban that $43 million. ("Oh, yes,
Mr. President, we are sending people to flight school so they can fight
the war on drugs?"). ME not only didn't have their ear to the ground,
they'd cut it off and launched it into orbit. Which is weird, because
"Something Blue" and "Intervention" were widely perceived as a joke
on/sop to the B/Sers, so you'd think they'd know they were out there.
Oh, well. Next she'll tell us she had no idea people didn't like Riley,
I suppose?
