Exactly. Everything that's happening seems surreal in the face of the
Buffy verse that we've known so far.

I can see that, but it still seems like a last attempt at trying to
salvage an obviously bad storyline. No matter the reason, I just can't see
someone who spends so much time trying to be the good one, going sour over
something she's trying to learn so well.

After the event's in the season premiere I have serious problems saying that Willow doesn't know that she's in love with Buffy. No matter how close their friendship was Willow never would have brought Buffy back. Instead she was so torn up over the woman she loved dying that she manifested a fantasy where Buffy was trapped in hell and that Willow had to play the knight in white armor and rescue her.

Then in the very next episode, we have Willow wanting Buffy to recognize what she did for her. She wanted Buffy to fall over her like a damsel just rescued from the evil dragon, and bestow her heart to her brave rescuer. That alone tells the audiene, at least IMO, that Willow fully recognizes her feelings for Buffy and is continuously trying to be the one to come to the rescue in order to gain the affections that she believes that she's not worthy of.

The relationships is what I had the most trouble with. Willow treats Dawn
like a sister/daughter. Yet she drags to teen to Racks. If it had been true to
character she would've taken Dawn home first, or at least put her in a cab, or maybe even had her call someone to get her. But she would not have taken her
into such a bad/dangerous atmoisphere.

Then there was Buffy walking away from Willow. Yes I understand that her sister was injuried, but it wasn't mortal, and Spike while he isn't trust worthy couldn't hurt Dawn and with his wanting to get in ' Good ' with Buffy would have taken her immediatly to the ER. Willow on the other hand was right on that line of going evil or giving up magic, and we're supposed to believe that Buffy would have not only pushed her down but just walked away from her if Spike hadn't told her to go to her?
