Okay, it seems that I was trying to be so quick in deleting Jolie's
first post on the May spoilers (the one that began with the block
capitals and exclamation points) that I didn't post the edited version
properly, so it hasn't shown up. My bad.
I was just working frantically so that I could take care of that before
further spoiler responses were posted--which happened anyway. OJT for
me, I guess. Next time I reset the member to moderated posting status
first, THEN I edit the soon-to-be deleted post, make sure the edited
version has posted and only then delete the original (I think that'll
work).
Anyway, Jolie (or whomever is currently using the "slyfox_kitkat"
address), you're invited to repost your first response, with appropriate
Spoiler Space added in.
And I am glad we're getting comment from some of our less-frequent
contributors to the list. I don't mean to sound like I don't want you
to share your thoughts; I do--just watch the Spoiler Space, okay?
Since my first comments on the subject seem to have vanished with the
edited version of that post, let me reiterate:
ALL responses to Spoiler topics MUST use Spoiler Space.
It is NOT sufficient to assume that people will see a Spoiler Warning in
the Subject line and delete the post. Most mail programs open mail
sequentially--you delete one message, and the next appears. It does no
good for there to be a Spoiler warning if before someone can read that
warning their eyes are caught by the Big Honkin' Spoilers in plain view.
This is one of the principal reasons for Spoiler Space--to ensure that
the Spoilers are not posted on the first page of any message.
Additionally, as I wrote last night, on our mainpage (
http://groups@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/group/buffywantswillow ) there is always a
listing of the five most recently-posted messages. These listings
include the message title, author, AND the first ten words or so of the
message itself. Anyone who came to the mainpage, for whatever reason,
would have been spoiled against their will even if they had never opened
the post in question. So, I say again, when replying to Spoilers,
either create your own Spoiler Space or (if you copy someone else's
Spoiler Space) write introductory comments so that the Spoiler reply
does not show up on the mainpage. Do not begin your message with "Buffy
sends Angel to Hell??? NO!!!!!" or anything so spoilery in nature,
okay?
ANYONE not adhering to these rules will have their status reset to
moderated--that is, all of their future posts will be subject to a
moderator's approval, which is inconvenient for you and more work for
me. So let's not make me have to do it. Further violations will result
in being banned from the list, and I really don't want to have to do
that.
