I noticed that, when we did this thread on the message board, several
people had the same experience as you did. They started with the first
fic alphabetically, Alex P.'s "A Higher Power" and that's what got them
hooked.
A few thoughts:
First, we owe a big debt of gratitude to Alex for writing such an
excellent story as an unwitting representative of the fandom entire.
I'm so grateful I've resolved not to nag him for more of "Revelations
and Realizations". Well, not much :)
Second, if we get this new archive we're talking about started (and
ditto for Kimber over at Exquisite), we should make really sure that any
authors named Aaron, Abby, or Adam put out really great work, because
apparently that first spot is so vital. (Well, maybe we can cheat and
still have Alex at the top of the list.)
Thirdly, you're the first person I've heard of who didn't realize they
were reading a B/W fic. That must have been a nice surprise :)
Fourthly, I myself never start at "A". Just weird, I guess. But it did
get me to Janine's stuff that much quicker. <<sends Janine-worshipping
vibes to Bill Gopher, fellow devotee>>
Last, thanks for popping out of lurkdom. (Of course, if anyone has a
natural reason to lurk, it'd be a troll, so that's cool, too. <g>)
