And Willow's, too. (Although it's not cemented until Willow tells Buffy
she can't be friends with both her and Cordelia, and Buffy makes her
choice, without a hesitation.)

Think about it, what happened there? Willow was insulted (yet again) by
Cordelia and the new girl in school (fashionable, and already hanging
out with Cordy) just stood by and didn't say anything. What earthly
reason does Willow have to look back at that? Only that she saw
something in Buffy's eyes, too.

BTW, something I just noticed when I went to look at the scene earlier
tonight. (Who says a 57th viewing holds no rewards, LOL?) On her
dress, Willow has a pin of a bowling pin and ball. Yet another bowling
reference, despite the fact we haven't seen it on the show, yet. (In
the first draft of "Never Kill A Boy On The First Date", Buffy and Owen
[then called Chambers] go bowling on their date, but this ended up being
the Bronze again.)

I guess Willow wears the pin as a sign of her crush on Xander ("What are
you, a glorified bricklayer?" "I'm also a swell bowler"--"The Gift").
And, besides, she's turned on by rented shoes ("Lovers Walk").
