VI.
Buffy reached the men?s showers with only the minor mishap of almost walking into the girl?s shower room without thinking. It was only the strange look she got from a girl leaving the room that made her realize what she had almost done. She ducked her head as a flush covered her face, and made her way to the next door. Cautiously pushing the door to the men?s showers open, she sighed in relief at the lack of nude male bodies in the room. She made her way to the furthest stall, and stepped into the small changing area attached to the shower.
After adjusting the temperature to a bearable level, she stripped off her clothes and stepped under the warm spray. She simply let the water rush over her for a few moments before grabbing the soap and giving herself a thorough washing. She was fascinated with the changed to her body, her hands running over hard, flat muscles where there had been soft curves a few days before.
Rinsing off, Buffy simply relaxed and let her mind wander. She thought of Willow?s reaction when Buffy had started stripping in front of her, and started to wonder if her friend was possibly attracted to her in this new body. Buffy had noticed that Willow had been fairly touchy with her the previous day, more so than was usual as of late.
She realized that the distance between them was mostly because of the time she had been spending with Riley, especially since Willow had been so hurt when Oz took off. She remembered all the times Willow had been there for her when her heart had been broken. She always gave her a shoulder to cry on, and made sure she had mass quantities of chocolaty goodies. And the one time she could have returned the favor, she was too busy running after a man she wasn?t even sure she wanted.
Buffy remembered the guilty relief she had felt when Willow started talking about her new friend, Tara. Willow?s budding friendship with the other girl meant that Buffy wouldn?t have to worry about not spending as much time with Willow as she used to. ?God, why was I trying to avoid being near my best friend?? At the time, she had just figured that it was a selfish desire to spend as much time with Riley as possible, but in the past couple of weeks, she?d realized it was something else, something she hadn?t been ready to take a close look at. ?Maybe I should try to find out why??
At that point, Buffy heard the sound of the door opening and masculine voices laughing and joking. Quickly turning off the water, she toweled herself dry, dressed in jeans and a polo shirt, and headed out of the shower room, careful to keep her eyes on the tiled floor. She would have no more time that day to think about her relationship with Willow.

Buffy and Willow went their separate ways when they reached the quad area, Monday being a day that they didn?t have any classes together. By the end of the day, Buffy had convinced all of her professors that she was helping her poor sick cousin, as well as being approached by three different girls in three different classes. One wanted to know if she wanted to have lunch, and two others wanted to invite her to campus parties later in the week. She politely turned down the lunch invitation, and told the other girls that she wasn?t sure of her plans yet.
Buffy and Willow met up in their room and left for Giles? home to continue their research session. Giles finally sent them home around 10:00 after yet another fruitless evening of trying to find an answer to their problem. It was during the walk home that Buffy made another discovery about the new her.
About a block from campus, five vampires appeared out of nowhere and attacked the girls. None of them realized that the young man was actually the Slayer; after all, every vampire knew that the Slayer was a girl. Buffy actually felt a twinge of concern; she didn?t know how this body worked in a fight. Fortunately for her, she found that she still had all of her Slayer skills and was actually a bit stronger as a man. The vampires were all dusted in very short order.
Arriving back at the dorm, both girls took quick showers to rinse the vamp dust off of them, then collapsed in their beds to slip into the arms of Morpheus within minutes.
