Re: [Re: FIC: Waiting for Dawn--a defense]
Greetings,
*First, FAN-Tastic to see Mad-Hamlet back here. The limitations of
*Hungarian internet connections aside, his criticism is a delight.
Happy to be of service. Just to point out that because I'm more 'Low Key' than
I was in the past does not mean I'm 'Out'. So if anyone wants my assistance
with things(Beta reading, brainstorming etc etc..) my email address is readily
available.
*Now, I'm going to argue against it.
Oh jee, thanks.
Actually, I'm only going to argue with point 1 in substance. 2 and 3
fall into the realm of "yes, but.."
*Yes, it would be nice to know of Faith's fate, but that didn't really
*bug me
It didn't exactly bug me either, the story was not any less because of it but
the level of thought going into mentioing the ultimate fates of the others
should also have extended to Faith. Not because she WAS Faith but because an
intrinsic part of this burnt out Buffy was the successive Slayers and their
deaths that did Buffy in. Made her stop caring. Well, for that to start Faith
had to be 'removed' from the picture.
This wasn't a stylistic thing mere story mechancs. Of course mechanics are
open to intirpertation.
*Yes, a more detailed heaven would have been of interest. However, in my
*case (and here I'm aware I may be having a minority opinion), I'm
*generally not fond of "they all lived happily in heaven" as a plot
*device.
Oh SURE belittle my plot device of choice.
*If life on Earth has no merit, then what is Buffy fighting for?
*Let the vamps kill the people and we'll all meet up in heaven
Well, for one thing theres the point of order that you don't know about Heaven
until you're there. Also life is for being there, so... copping out ain't
kosher.(Or so says the bible thumpers but who listens to them anyhow?)
In direct answer Dan, I'd say, toward the end, Buffy wasn't fighting for
anybody, merely out of habit. Pride maybe.
If anything the end result of heaven ..or whatever you call it(I see the word
Heaven too often and I start having flashbacks to 'The Far Side' cartoons.)is
merely the confirmation of 'Its okay'.
*However, I'd like to argue the point on "Rack's a drug pusher, therefore
*he wouldn't open the Hellmouth."
I'm not sure I get this. True opening the Hellmouth would probably release a
boatload of magical energy but if the average Warlock was capable of doing
that then the world would have been 'Oraled' long before by one of the earlier
ones. If Rack is uniquly capable of this feat than he's not human(In that case
it would make sense.) Other than that, I have no idea why any mortal would
want to open the Hellmouth unless they have a lifelong desire to spend
eternity as a Pinata.
Oh sure, the deamons PROMISE power but..c'mon..deamons lie.
*Now I realize that part of my wishing to see Rack as more than just the
*corner mojo pusher is in part influenced by the desire for a Big Bad
You..don't..know?
Oh man.
*I have to point out the
*problem with referencing Spike's "I like this world" speech from
*"Becoming, Part 2" in this context.
*Simple. Spike's lying.
I dunno about 'lying' per se. Probably an unfocused preferance in hand witha
focused preferance.
Ie. I don't want the world to burn in Nuclear fire.
Why?
Well, my wife and child(Well, soon to be child) are part of the world.
And I'm kinda fond of Seaworld.
Can't have Shamu turned into radioactive kibbles see?
Dru is Spike's focused preferance and, I'll agree, that once he had HER his
concern for Picadilly Circus and ..whatever that bloody soccer teams name is
went right out the window. That doesn't mean he doesn't like em' Ol' Spike's
just more an 'Instant Gratification' type.
Anyhow, facinating as this is I've said my peace and will stick to it. Though
the back and forth discussion is a nice break from the humdrum of the day.
However I have a project to get back too. It would take less time but my
Beta'er just had surgery so she's got to mend before anything becomes public.
So I'll close with this.
Less discussion, more fanfic.
Dan, you're WAY behind quota.
I remain, as always,
Mad-Hamlet
There is only one thing that can damn me.
That can send me down in a swirling maelstrom of fire and pain.
And it is not the word of Man.
And it is not the lessons and rules of the Church, hypocrites every one.
And it is not the words of God, nor the judgements of Angels.
And it not a fair tribunal of my 'peers' that can find me guilty of crimes
immortal.
No.
I can only be accused, judged and damned by my own Soul.
And I would never be so betrayed.
