Re: Re: location shoots (was re: SPOILERS)
It's interesting that they're doing so much location shooting this late
in the year, when the season has been very insular, with no villain and
little interaction between the gang and the wider world. Almost like
they're trying to compensate for having done a "bottle" show ("Older and
Far Away") during Feb sweeps.
And since the location shoots are so tough to keep secret, you'd think
they wouldn't schedule them for the finale. Of the other arc wrap-ups
(I'm counting "Primeval" rather than "Restless" here), only "Graduation
Day, Part 2" used extensive location work, and I bet it was pretty easy
to keep security tight at Torrance High. (I'm assuming that although
the construction site in "The Gift" was supposed to be outside, it was
actually a set.)
Lastly, although I love to blame Marti Noxon for everything that's wrong
with this year, I kind of doubt that spoilage-prevention is the Grand
Panjandrum's duty. Presumably the ME security personnel haven't
changed, or if they have, the anti-spoiler procedures are in place for
the new guys to enforce. So why the vast spoilage this year?
Mind you, I don't begrudge the spoilerholics their poison (bad as I
think it is for them), but it's the show's duty to control this stuff,
both to leave the spoiler crew with something to tune in for, and to
limit the amount of damage that leakage can inflict on ostriches like
myself. Spoilers are supposed to be hints to entice viewers, not giving
away the whole ball of wax. ("Why would you want a ball of wax, anyway?
I mean, even if you actually need that much wax, couldn't you have it in
a stick?" Willow, I love you, but not now, hon...)
