RE: OT: Ranting - Seeing Red - SPOILERS
Well said,
I've lurked, and avoided adding my comments on this episode for many reason
(among them a lack of my own feelings about the events).

Ok....Someone in the WillTara group posted that in a
Soap Magazine Marti Noxon was interviewed and she said
the death was final. Now this is really a slap in the
face for all those people out there who supported the
couple. It's like saying, 'Well we couldn't kill off
Oz, cause well he's a guy, but we can kill off Tara
because she's a girl.' WTF is up with that. If Amber
wanted to leave, they didn't need to kill her off.
They didn't kill off Faith or Oz or hell even Riley
for that fucking matter they gave them all the chance
to come back. But no, we gotta kill off the lesbian
lover of Willow's to make her go all black widowey on
Warren's ass. Excuse me cause I am going to go throw
up now. Yes, Warren does deserve to die, for shooting
Buffy and by some fucking mystikal force shooting
Tara. Unless his fucking bullets had some mystikal
force there is NO WAY IN FUCKING HELL THAT TARA SHOULD
HAVE BEEN SHOT...ME, JOSS AND THE REST OF THOSE FUCK
HEADS SNAFUED AND FUBARED BIG TIME AND THEY MAY LOSE A
LOT OF FAN BASE FOR DOING SO...YEAH SO HE WANTS TO
FUCK WITH OUR HEADS, DO THAT, NOT OUR HEARTS, NOT
CHARACTERS THAT WE'VE GROWN TO LOVE!
Yes. Marti does says the death is final, of course totally avoiding the fact
that there are suppose to be multiple deaths from last week episode up to
the season finale. But besides from that, what irritates me the most is
peoples comments on the comparison between Oz and Tara.
Besides the fact that Oz exodus was slightly unplanned, the major reason
that he still lives, is that Joss wanted to force a situation where Willow
had to choose. Without the choose, there would always be those detractors
that would cry she's not a *real* lesbian, or those who would state "well if
Oz came back Willow would love him more". Joss forced the choice, because
without both the straight and gay community would harbor doubts about
whether or not Willow loved Tara "enough".
It always irritates me when people want 'everything'. Introduce a lesbian
character, but make that character sacrosanct-impervious to death, evil
doings, misguided judgements, and typical human foibles-because if you don't
then you'll be accused of homophobia, and if you do then your character
becomes boring and no one wants to watch it anyway.
Big deal, they didn't kill off Oz, or Faith, or Riley. They have killed off
other characters, much beloved characters and somewhat minor characters
from Larry, and Kendra, to Jenny/Jenna, to Joyce. Lets face it this is a
show that killed off two of its major characters, then brought them back
admittedly from heaven and hell.
I admit to having no idea of what's planned. What I do know are the same
tidbits of truth inter-dispersed with lies and rumors as most others: Tara
will be killed. Warren will be killed. Dawn maybe killed. Giles should be
back by end of next episode. Willow seeks vengeance. Spike gets de-chipped,
and the hellmouth goes to hell, then comes back. We don't really know what
causes the reset, or how extensive it is-who lives, who stays dead, or
anything about the streets strewn with bad relationship details. But we do
know next year returns the slayer and crew to somewhat happier times.
I personally believe Amber Benson will be back as Tara, and if anyone of the
Scobbies actually have a chance at a happy relationship it will most likely
be Willow; but even if that's not true...
Mutant Enemy did provide the world access to a wonderful lesbian
relationship. One that wasn't entered into by happenstance, or taken
lightly. One that didn't deny the aspect of choice that exists in most
relationship-allowing the primary to choose a pattern and a path that made
emotional sense for her. The relationship also allowed both partners to
grow.
This in itself was far better thing provided to us all, that no one has
congratulate Mutant Enemy on. How many shows would have kept Tara as a
background character to Willows change, possibly forcing her into emotional
servitude to keep Willow happy and strong, without taking the opportunity to
force a shy, stuttering, and somewhat retiring character of Tara to
acknowledge herself and her own importance.
Tara's lack of stutters, and ability to be the strength for multiple show
characters, including Buffy, Willow, and Dawn was all based on her
characters growth, a growth that most likely would have taken years longer
if she had just stayed to support Willow and forgo her own needs during the
break-up process.
This isn't to say, I wouldn't want Tara back. I do. As much as I am more a
fantasy Buffy-Willow or Buffy-Willow-Tara relationship girl, I do just enjoy
the cuteness that is Willow-Tara and the depth Amber Benson and Mutant Enemy
has brought the character. Lets face it if they would have given us the
character that half the people demand, most of us really wouldn't care that
much if Tara was dead. The fact that we care, and that a "non-central"
character matters so much is telling of something done right.
A character on the show was killed. She may remain dead (that's yet to be
determined), but this is a show were lots of characters die; and not too
often, but often enough they are characters that mean something to us. It's
what makes Sunnydale, in all of its fantasy, more real to us.
I cried more when Joyce died then I did over certain relatives that have
died. I still consider Jenny's death one of the most violent images I've
scene (because for all the lack of blood, it was violent, willful,
disrespectful, cold and brutal--the utter lack of passion on Angel's part
was far more disturbing then a vampires bite or a demon beheading). Of
course it also still irritates me the whimpy way they took Kendra down as
well but lets not go there.
While I don't rate this season as great, I do believe they've done some
great things this season. Unfortunately they were just bogged down by Marti
Noxon's inability to complete a plot in one episode. Sure I'm certain others
are at fault as well, but I like blaming Marti, and she does have that
propensity for two episodes are better than one.
Anyway, my 22¢.
